1. Seahorse Siren: Overall Test Winner!

Why I Love Seahorse Siren:

The website for Polynesian Pleasure says their designs are inspired by “the vibrant spirit of the islands”. While I can’t attest to that, I can attest to the fact that The Seahorse Siren took me on a fun, sexy, absolutely wild ride. The shape, the intensity of the dual sensations, the warming function…if this is the island spirit, I’m booking a flight right now!

Don’t be put off by its funky, vaguely slug-like shape: the Seahorse Siren definitely pulls ahead of the competition, making it the best warming vibrator and my favorite rabbit toy. For one thing, the antennae are located on the shaft, not the external attachment. While this seems, frankly, incorrect (rabbits are named for their external “ears”, after all), the antennae add to a unique internal sensation, not to mention added precision, and the flatter external attachment made it easier to use than a model that you have to awkwardly fumble with to line up with your anatomy. Personally, I need to really grind up against a toy to use it externally, and the shape of the Seahorse Siren made that easy to do, with a flat surface as the external part.

The Seahorse Siren is also easy to use, which is a definite plus when it comes to products with unusual features, like warming functions. It has two different buttons, one for warming and one for vibrations. A big benefit of this is that you can turn on the warming function before inserting it and starting the vibrations. It may seem simpler to have one button to control both functions, but to me, the whole point of a warming vibrator is making insertion easier, so having it warm up once it’s already inside me does not seem ideal. Being able to get it warmed up first definitely made inserting it a lot easier, which is important for a sex toy with this much girth.

There are 10 vibration modes on the Seahorse Siren, which start pretty intense and only get more powerful. Internally, these modes feel great. Externally, these modes feel amazing. Combined, these modes feel…well, I’ll let you see for yourself. Or rather…”sea” for yourself (I’ll “sea” myself out). I’m talking back-arching, audible “Oh, wow” type sensations. If you want size, power, and touch of whimsy, look no further than the Seahorse Siren. But be warned, it will lure you into its world of pleasure.

Minor issues I found during testing:

Nobody’s perfect, including this nautical little wonder. The first time I tried this product, I really wasn’t a fan. Why? For the simple reason that the button to cycle through the vibration modes was too hard to press while it was vibing away inside me and my hands were covered in lube. And considering the 2 inch width of this toy, you will need lube. This problem was solved by wiping off my hands after inserting it, but an easier control system would have made this excellent toy even better. While it might not have looked as aesthetically pleasing, a handle made from a different material could have done the trick, or even the option to use a remote control function.  As I say, though, this issue was easily solved.

2. Scarlett Obsessions: Our Budget Pick!

Why I Love Scarlett Obsessions:

Another great warming rabbit vibrator, the Scarlett Obsessions by NS Novelties is a great choice, especially for someone looking for something a little more traditional than the Seahorse Siren. It looks like a regular rabbit, with a penis-shaped shaft and an attachment with two little ears/antennae sticking out. If you’ve never tried a rabbit vibrator before, or you’re curious to try a warming toy, Scarlett could well become your newest obsession.

As with the Seahorse Siren, the Scarlett Obsessions is intense enough to offer fantastic external and internal pleasure, without prioritizing one or the other. These vibrations are strong—so strong that the external ears didn’t always stay in place. Not a problem, though, since it was easy to hold flexible silicone in place. This one is a lot squishier than the Seahorse Siren, which is definitely something to keep in mind if you’re as particular about the feel of your silicone toys as I am.

Another feature I really liked was that the warming function and vibrating functions are controlled independently, meaning you can give the toy some time to warm up before using it. To me, this is the entire point of having a warming function, so I was glad to see this toy had that feature, especially at such a reasonable price.

One issue I’ve had with rabbit vibrators in the past (and I know I’m not alone in this) is the fact that they can be difficult to line up properly. I had no such problem with the Scarlett Obsessions, however, and it seemed perfectly proportioned for the ears to caress exactly where they were supposed to. And despite a similar button layout, I didn’t have the same problems pressing the buttons that I did with the Seahorse Siren. Yet another win for this powerful, sleek toy!

Minor issues I found during testing:

The only issue I had with this product was the fact that it vibrated so strongly that the rabbit ears didn’t stay put. This might not be an issue for some people, but when it comes to external pleasure, I like the vibe in question to be pressed down on me hard. However, since the silicone was so squishy, holding the ears in place was not an issue. And if you prefer a lighter touch on your external toys anyway, the Scarlett Obsessions will be perfect for you.

3. Zalo Desire: Best thruster!

Why I Love The Zalo Desire:

Do vibrations just…not do it for you? Do you want a different sensation to satisfy you? I get it; while there are fantastic vibrating toys out there (I should know), internal vibes just don’t always do it for me either, and definitely not on their own. Enter (pun intended): the thruster. With its jackhammer-like movements (and I mean that in a good way), this vibrator offers a new sensation that regular models just don’t. Add to that some stunning good looks and a warming function, and this sex toy is a real winner and has even gained a place in my usual rotation.

The Zalo products are some of the prettiest I’ve ever seen, the Desire being no exception. It’ll make you smile every time you look at it, and make you feel like a princess while you use it. The button setup looks complicated, but is actually pretty intuitive once you get the hang of it, and it’s very easy to use, even while it’s pounding away at you!

The proportions make it sleek while having a bit of girth to it, so it does feel satisfying to use, especially at the more intense speeds. It even has a turbo speed for some extra intensity. The warming function was also more noticeable with this toy than with others I’ve tried, and definitely added a delicious sensation. It also has the option to warm it up before starting the vibrations, so that’s another point in its favor. The first time I slid this warm toy inside me, I knew I was hooked.

The Zalo Desire is not the most intense toy out there, which makes sense, considering its dainty, fairy-princess aesthetic. And intense is not for everyone! If you want something different than a basic vibe but don’t quite want to enter the world of literal sex machines, the Zalo Desire will make a gorgeous addition to your collection.

Minor issues I found during testing:

Because of the button layout, it is easy to turn it off accidentally while trying out all the different functions. Granted, it’s easy to turn it back on, but it is a bit of a mood-killer when I think I’ve broken a favorite toy.

4. Zalo Courage: Best Internal For Beginners!

Why I Love The Zalo Courage:

The Zalo Courage is another internal vibrator, this one with a more traditional vibrating sensation. Why would I recommend this one for beginners? A couple of reasons! I feel as though the word “beginner” can often be a shorthand for “cheap” or “basic”, and I don’t think this should be the case. Obviously, it’s impossible to know what kinds of toys you’ll like before trying any, but it’ll be better for your pleasure, not to mention the planet and your wallet, if you invest in one really good sex toy, not a handful of cheap ones. My first internal vibe was an awful, buzzy little thing, and it put me off internal vibes for years! Something like the Zalo Courage, on the other hand, will make you want to use it again and again.

With an insertable width of 1.3”, the Zalo Courage isn’t so wide as to be terrifying to a beginner, but not so small that you’ll get tired of it if/when you graduate to larger toys. As with the Zalo Desire, the controls aren’t immediately intuitive, but once you figure them out, they are extremely fun to use. Even if I’m happy on a particular pattern, I’ll sometimes push the little star-shaped button just for the fun of it.

While I’m sure Zalo could sell plenty of products by making them look cute and not much else, the Courage provides some great sensations. Like with the Desire, it isn’t the strongest vibe on the market, but that’s another reason I’d recommend it to a beginner. And intense is not always better! A super buzzy vibrator can be called intense, after all. But the rumbly sensation of the Courage makes it great to use, regardless of your experience level. It’s also extremely quiet, even considering how relatively gentle it is.

Having a heating function on a beginner toy makes it another great contender. Silicone can feel amazing, but when it’s cold, that can be uncomfortable for anyone, let alone a beginner. Having the option to heat it up makes the process a lot more comfortable.

Minor issues I found during testing:

There was an error in the instruction manual. It said to pull the button back to turn it off, when you really want to push it forward. Mistakes like that bug me more than they should.

5. Zalo Confidence: Best External For Beginners!

Why I Love The Zalo Confidence:

Yet another Zalo toy on this list! And there will be one more, just maybe not where you’d expect (we all make mistakes, even the good people at Zalo). Yes, Zalo came up with another winner that’s gorgeous while providing some amazing sensations, this time external ones.

I will always have a place in my heart for external wand vibes. Like many, if not most, AFAB people, my first sex toy was a wand, and I’ve loved them ever since. Wand toys are a great way to experiment with pleasure, especially since they offer more control than an internal vibrator. With an external vibrator, you can decide how much pressure to add (or not) to the area, and if a sensation gets to be too much, you can just pull it off, instead of having to turn it off and take it out, as with an internal toy. Add to all that the fact that this product has a warming function and actually looks like a fairy princess wand… needless to say, I immediately fell in love with it.

As with the Zalo Courage, the Confidence would make for a wonderful beginner model because of how beautiful and lovingly designed it is. This isn’t a sex toy to use a couple of times as a beginner, then throw away once you’ve found something better; this is a toy that will last and be a favorite in your collection. If you’re a believer in masturbation as self-care, and want to feel like a magical girl in every aspect of your life, this is the toy to get.

Another reason this toy gets my vote as a beginner option is that the Zalo confidence is on the gentler side, so it won’t be overwhelmingly intense for a beginner, or anyone who might be sensitive down there. Another benefit of the slightly gentler vibes is that I was able to hold the handle comfortably and without feeling like my hand was getting a massage as well as my other parts. Confidence managed to keep the vibes right where they belonged. Also, while the vibes may not be super intense, they are still more rumbly than buzzy, which is always a plus. If you want a stunning, easy-going external vibe, I feel…confident in recommending the Zalo Confidence.

Minor issues I found during testing:

The fact that the sensations of this one are not super powerful was a point against it for me. I really had to press up against it in order to really get the full benefit of the vibrations, and even that proved somewhat difficult, considering the flexible silicone head. The round head looks amazing, but did not allow for any pinpoint precision.

6. VeDO Boom: Most Versatile For Beginners!

Why I Love The VeDo Boom:

Now, let’s say you’re a beginner, but don’t want something as whimsical and out-there as a Zalo. You want some internal and external pleasure, but you want to stick to the basics. Well, the VeDo Boom has your back (or, well, your other body parts). Between its ease of use, its slim shape, and that little bump near the tip, this toy has a lot going for it.

The slim shape makes it a good internal toy for people who experience vaginal pain with larger toys, but the feature I really appreciated was the little bump near the tip. When I used this toy externally, it felt amazing. A lot of so-called versatile vibrators are clearly meant for one purpose or another, but the VeDo Boom works equally well as an internal and external vibrator. Personally, I didn’t like the extremely tapered, lipstick-shaped tip when I used it internally. Even with the warming function, a tip this fine seems somehow more clinical than a tip that’s just slightly more rounded. But, as always, these things are subjective. I’d imagine that a lot of people will actively love this type of shape on a toy, especially since it does lend itself to some internal precision.

Another thing I really appreciated about this toy was the fact that you can control the intensity and the vibration pattern independently. I am very particular about my stimulations, so having that option automatically makes a toy stand out from the competition. Especially for a beginner, I think it’s important to have as many options as possible, so you can really customize your vibration experience without getting too overwhelmed by the intense sensation. It also allows you to increase or decrease the intensity of the vibration, instead of cycling through them all. If you’re a beginner who’s uncomfortable with the intensity of one vibration, having to cycle through even more intense ones to get back to the one you liked is…an unpleasant experience to say the least. The VeDo Boom really understands that, “beginner” doesn’t have to mean “so basic it has limited functionality”.

The VeDo Boom is easy to use, which is good because it didn’t come with an instruction booklet. If you’re a beginner and don’t want to fumble around with the somewhat strange button configuration of the Zalo toys, the VeDo Boom might be the one for you. Between its slimness, versatility, and ease of use, this is a handy little vibrator to have around.

Minor issues I found during testing:

The lack of instructions made it initially difficult to figure out how to use it, especially with the travel lock that I never quite figured out. Also, the awkward button placement made it a bit of a hassle to use internally.

7. Oh My Gem Ardor: Best Travel Size!

Why I Love The Oh My Gem Ardor:

The Oh My Gem Ardor is tiny, easy to use, and great for both internal and external pleasure. Another great choice for beginners, right? Oh, no! Don’t be fooled by the tiny, pretty package—this little gem packs a real punch!

One of my favorite aspects of the Ardor was the tapered head. I know I had my issues with the extremely tapered head of the VeDo Boom, but the Gem didn’t have that extreme edge and was a bit more rounded, making it a much more pleasant experience, as far as I was concerned. Not only did it make internal insertion easy, but I was also able to grind up against it to my satisfaction when I used it externally. I love any toy that’s genuinely excellent at both. Since the warming function can’t be controlled separately, I would definitely recommend using this toy externally to get it (and yourself) warmed up before using it internally. Even if you have to turn it off to insert it, it won’t cool down too drastically, and will heat right back up when you’re ready to get vibing.

The vibes, though…the vibes are strong. Anything above the first few intensity levels was a little too much for me, so if you crave a lot of power in your vibrator, skip the Zalo toys and get the Ardor instead. Using it externally is a little less intense, simply because you can control how much pressure you want as you press it against yourself. But of course if you want a lot of external power (and I get it; there’s nothing like an overwhelming vibrating sensation when you’re in the mood), it will deliver.

I also really liked how slim this toy is, especially in conjunction with its power. Not everyone who wants a huge toy is going to want a super intense vibration and vice versa. If you’re a size queen, give this one a miss, but the combination of the small size (the width is only 1 in.), feminine design, and ultra-intense vibes is going to appeal to a lot of people. While it’s not super quiet, if you want a travel toy that’s tiny but will still get you to your destination, so to speak, this one is an absolute gem.

And Two To Avoid

The Zalo Eve

I told you Zalo would be making another appearance on this list. Ah, The Eve. What can I say about The Eve? Well, it did make me laugh, which is a first in my sex toy experience. While I absolutely recommend the Zalo Desire for a sensation more unusual than a basic vibe, the wriggling, writhing motions of the Eve are a little too unusual. I didn’t want to put it in my body as much as I wanted to call an exorcist. If you want a really…different internal sensation, I won’t dissuade you from using it, but I won’t be held responsible for the sprains you develop trying to mimic its motions.

The Nubii Chloe

Sometimes I feel as though companies try so hard to make a toy beginner-friendly that they miss the mark entirely. The Nubii is versatile and well-designed in terms of its shape, I will give it that, but the fact that it has only one button that controls both the warming function and the vibrations means that A) you can’t warm it up beforehand B) you have to cycle through all the vibration intensities to get back to the gentle ones. Neither of these are things I like to see in a toy that’s so obviously meant for a beginner to use. There are much better options out there in every respect.
