How We Picked The Products

This article has gone through several iterations since it was first published back in 2016. For the first edition, Tim Larson started his research by making a list of all available anal beads that were available in early 2016. From every brand. No kidding, that was a lot of work, guys! Since then, the list has grown to over 100 products, many of which have been discontinued.

If you have followed us since the start, you probably remember that we recommended Fun Factory Flexi Felix in the first edition, but we think there are better products this year, especially from b-Vibe and Fifty Shades. So sadly, there’s no room for Flexi Felix on this year’s list!

After collecting all available products, we divided them into various categories, such as budget, vibrating, beginner, etc. Then we defined several test criteria that we could measure on a scale from 0 to 100. These criteria included the following:

• Build Quality. As always, the team was most concerned with the materials used for the sex toys and the craftsmanship. Silicone was our first choice because of its hypoallergenic and non-porous properties. Other favorable materials include stainless steel and borosilicate glass.
• Design. The most effective anal beads have a graduated size and tapering, making them easy to insert in the ass. Features like a pointed head and smooth texture make these anal sex toys favorable for beginners and folks with ultra-sensitive anal linings. During testing, we rated each review sample based on the criteria listed above, starting from 0% (Worst) to 100% (Best). Each score was calculated using different weighted metrics depending on what we deemed most important. Half the total rating comes from Design (25%) and Build Quality(25%). After that comes Stimulation (10%), Versatility (10%), Bells & Whistles (10%), Handling (10%), Battery & Charging (5%), and Price rating (5%).

Once the team submitted their notes, we sat down to sort the products into clear groups based on performance and design. We cross-checked our findings using comparison charts and browsed through online reviews and user experiences to get a broader sense of how each product was received. Let’s move on to the build quality, another test criterion where it performed very well. The build quality was solid, and our worries that I’d get a flimsy and frustratingly floppy set of anal beads were squashed as soon as we unboxed Triplet. “I thought the designers balanced the solid and rigid aspects remarkably, giving us a solid toy that’s not too rigid to affect the wearer’s comfort”, our tester Sandra Larson wrote in her test report.

We also thought that Triplet was easy to insert, and the beads stayed where we wanted them without awkward adjustments. The ergonomic handle offered an easy maneuvering grip and doubled as a security apparatus to avoid over-insertion. Overall, an excellent user experience.

I think our tester Rachel Sommer summarized the stimulation category best with this quote from her test report: “I started with two beads before building the courage for the third one. Minor issues we found during testing:

I had concerns about the durability of the material between the individual beads. It felt somewhat flimsy, and I was scared of vigorous thrusting.
