One reason the game is affordable is because it doesn’t come with all the accoutrements you need to get started. If you’ve been interested in bondage for a while, you may have some of the key ingredients on hand. If not, it’s time for a trip to your favorite adult store to pick up a few things, like restraints, a blindfold, a whip, and a feather tickler. Of course, using household items as a substitute is cheaper, more convenient, and fun, but the safety of each will vary, so use your best judgment.

Domin8 Me won the title of best bondage board game from our testing team for good reason. It’s re-playable and bound to inspire creativity and adventure in the bedroom. It was a fun jumping-off point for my partner and me to try some more absurdly kinky fantasies out.

After playing it numerous times with my partner, I noticed that there is a bit of an experience gap in this game. I appreciate the range of scenes the cards encapsulate, but going from dirty talk to potentially whipping your partner is one giant step for anyone. Whipping your partner is not a gentle introduction to BDSM, and it should only be attempted by experts who have had years of training. Using a soft flogger is a much more beginner-friendly approach.

Further, you’ll need to employ your best improv skills at the end of the game. Seasoned kinksters are used to wearing a persona in the bedroom, but if this is your first time, some of the scenes may be a stretch for you.

Lastly, I was not a fan of some of the language used in this game. Referring to anything sexual as “naughty” immediately is a red flag for me, as a survivor of purity culture. Further, some of the scenes include “cowboy and Indian” and “master and slave.” Those are intense, and race play can be nuanced and tricky. They are included without a trigger warning, which seems like an oversight. If that’s not your thing, that’s totally okay. Feel free to remove those from the deck before playing with your partner.

However, some of the scenes I fell in love with like the special agent and the criminal. Who wouldn’t love pretending to be Burt Macklin and Janet Snakehole? Masquerading as a magician and a magician’s assistant was a good time, too.

Overall, we had fun with this game. It’s meant to spark your creativity, not limit it. Get rid of the old-fashioned cards or anything that will step on your arousal’s brakes. And feel free to write your own scenario cards, though no blank cards are provided.

The front of the box says, “The Winner Takes…or Gives…it all.” Love the word play, but the capitalization and ellipses were a dizzying whirlwind of emotion for this writer.

The game design is darn near perfect. It’s easy to learn, and games will turn out wildly different even after several plays. The dominoes feature pictures of various bondage equipment for you to match up, and the scenario cards have unique ideas for getting steamy.

My qualm is that the winner gets to choose who is dominant and who is submissive. This would rule out 99% of my BDSM friends from even getting started, as their identity as a dom or sub is integral to their enjoyment of kink. Switches are flexible in their BDSM roles, like bisexuals, but related solely to kink. However, in my experience, switches don’t make up the majority of people interested in kink. If this part of the gameplay bothers you, change the rules! Instead, perhaps the winner gets to choose the scenario card you act out, and you get to keep your existing kink roles as top or bottom.
