Fap Or False? More Masturbation Myths

We’re back with more masturbation myths! There’s too much masturbatory-misinformation out there; let’s get the record straight and rub one out without the fake news.

May is all about embracing that ultimate act of self-care: self-love. It’s perfectly normal and feels good, but between stigma, taboo, and plain ol’ buzzkills, there’s a lot of outdated nonsense intended to make you feel ashamed or ‘wrong’. Bugger to that!

Myth #1 – It Gives You Erectile Dysfunction

FALSE – Erectile Dysfunction (ED) is a condition where your body loses the ability to maintain or get an erection. There are all sorts of causes, from medication to smoking, but masturbation doesn’t rank!

If you find it harder to ‘get it up’ while wanking or with your partner it’s more likely that you’ve become used to your own touch or certain sensations. In particular ‘death grip syndrome’ (DGS) is caused by gripping your cock too hard and too often that your body gets used to an unnatural level of tightness.

So vary up your wanking technique! This could mean using a different sex toy or changing which hand you use. Fleshlight’s are one of the most popular masturbators for people who are trying to rehabilitate their rods from DGS.

Myth #2 – It Makes You Hornier

TRUE sort of – If you’ve found your sex drive has stalled, a little selfstimulation can resuscitate your libido. Not only does it help you learn what your body likes, making any pleasure more efficient, especially if you share your self-knowledge with your partner. Think of it like letting the engine warm up before driving!

However, masturbation can be addictive, just like sex. There’s no set number for ‘masturbating too much’, but as long as rubbing one out isn’t preventing you from living a normal, healthy, satisfying life, you’re fine.

Myth #3 – It’s Unhealthy

FALSE – Actually, it’s the opposite. Giving yourself an orgasm, regardless of gender, can help you get better sleep, and the endorphin release can relieve stress and headaches. Some people (myself included) claim that regular orgasms help keep them looking younger.

For women masturbation can help reduce pain during sex by training your brain to associate the vagina with pleasure. It can even reduce vaginal dryness and atrophy over time. There’s even a possibility that masturbation reduces a man’s risk of prostate cancer (however, this isn’t proven, so please go to your checkups).

You’re welcome.

Myth #4 – Vibrators Cause Nerve Damage

FALSE – What a load of bollocks. Sure, using your vibe on the highest setting might make some of the 8,000 nerve endings on the clitoris feel numb, but it’s just overstimulation. It’s not harmful, it’s temporary.

Unsurprisingly, this claim seems to have grown out of the ‘manosphere‘, I would assume as an excuse for insecure men who can’t sexually satisfy their partner. Gee guys, I can’t imagine why she’s not cum after you’ve been DJ-ing her left flap for 30 seconds. It must be the virbator.

Myth #5 – Corn Flakes Were Invented To Prevent Masturbation

FALSE sort of – John Harvey Kellogg invented cornflakes as an easy-to-digest breakfast food in his Victorian push for healthy living, along with cold baths, yoghurt enemas, and, erm, eugenics.

Kellogg had some serious hangups about masturbation and believed in strictly abstaining from sexual activity – even between married couples. He claimed a ‘simple, pure and unstimulating diet‘ would discourage masturbation. Corn flakes just happen to fit that criteria…

Now go forth and jerk your gerkin/flick your bean, shame-free and satisfaction (more or less) guaranteed. Don’t forget to check out our previous blogs about masturbation myths:
