If you have read any of my other sex toy reviews, and through my decades of experience as a member of the BDSM community, I consider the most important aspect of any kink-related product is how safe it is. Not if it looks good or even feels good, because what good is a piece of BDSM gear if using it might place the user’s well-being in jeopardy.

With that in mind, you can probably guess what I’m going to say next. Yes, the KBboy Silicone Mouth Gag With Lock is certainly interesting, taking as it does a unique approach to mouth gags. Sure, it definitely keeps the wearer from speaking. But what it doesn’t do is allow them to breathe comfortably—a massive no-no when it comes to any kind of gag.

Now I’m not going to come out and say the KBboy Silicone Mouth Gag With Lock is dangerous. But what DO have no problem stating that it’s a toy ONLY people extremely well-versed in bondage safety should ever buy—let alone use. So, unless you have decades of experience in kink and understand and respect how risky it can be, then my advice is to pass this model by and instead look for something less problematic.

One other thing, I do not recommend securing the strap with its provided padlock, as doing so might make removing it quickly, should the wearer find their breathing seriously impeded, difficult.

My Personal Experience

The moment my partner and I removed the KBboy Silicone Mouth Gag With Lock from its packaging, we both shook our heads in confusion. First of all, we had no clue how to use it as it arrived without any sort of instructions—or, for that matter, any warnings on how not to play with it.

Not that the Juliet Toy’s site helped, as it also didn’t enlighten us on how it was supposed to work, except for a couple of photos. Finally, after way too much trial and a lot of errors, we kind of, sort of sussed it out.

However, the instant either of us inserted it in our respective mouths, we immediately removed it. Effective though it was at restraining our ability to speak, we also found ourselves instantly terrified at how the KBboy Silicone Mouth Gag With Lock kept us from easily breathing. In fact, we both pledged never to use it again, with my partner going so far as to demand that I make a point of mentioning this when writing this review.

Design

The KBboy Silicone Mouth Gag With Lock consists of two parts: a molded mouthpiece made to be inserted into the wearer’s mouth and a two-foot-long belt with a metal buckle (image below) for securing it around their head. The belt—or strap—also has thirteen notches, allowing it to fit several differently sized heads. While technically the belt can be removed from the mouth part as it’s not secured to it, I found doing so is not advisable, as getting the strap back through it is far from easy.

Material

KBboy Silicone Mouth Gag With Lock is primarily made from body-safe, somewhat pliable silicone. Its buckle and other metal components appear to be fashioned from stainless steel, but Juliet Toys doesn’t say for certain. The included lock appears to be made of brass with a steel shackle and three additional metal keys.

Build Quality and Dimensions

The strap is approximately two feet long, slightly less than three-quarters of an inch wide, and close to one-sixteenth of an inch thick. It also has thirteen notches for adjusting the tension around the wearer’s head. The mouth part is difficult to measure but is approximately three and a half inches long, two and a half inches tall, and one and three-quarters wide.

Overall, the KBboy Silicone Mouth Gag With Lock is well-made, particularly in the design of the buckle, which is impressively sturdy, and rather than the usual pin-type print, the manufacturer opted for a much more secure solid metal loop.

Ease of Use

Due to a lack of instructions, I found the KBboy gag to be unpleasantly challenging to use, especially since my partner and I had no clue which way its mouth part was intended to go. A situation exacerbated by the fact that, regardless of whether we tried using it up or down, we always found it extremely uncomfortable, discounting how challenging the gag made it to breathe effectively or comfortably.

Versatility

A classic example of a BDSM one-trick pony, the KBboy Silicone Mouth Gag With Lock was designed and manufactured for a single purpose. It should never be employed in any other capacity. However, as its strap can be removed, it technically could be used as a sort of bondage toy. But having said that, I don’t think that’s a particularly good idea, as there are far better bondage options out there without potentially damaging a $55 gag.

Juliet Toy doesn’t allow exchanges or refunds for any purchases made on its site. But if something purchased from them proves to be defective, you have a week to contact them about it—although the company doesn’t specify whether a refund or exchange is possible.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

At the risk of repeating myself, gags should NEVER impair anyone’s ability to breathe comfortably.
