My Personal Experience

I’m such a huge fan of adult games. I love sex, and I love board games, and the only thing I love more than that is when two of my interests overlap. So, I was in heaven when I received the Lovehoney Oh! Kinky Confessions deck.

Here’s the thing: I know almost everything about my partner. That’s what happens when you have a partner who is your best friend for a long time. When we go to a new restaurant, I can order for him. I know what he wants. And those abilities translate to the bedroom. While this deck wasn’t covering new information for us, it was still fun to play. We played it backwards. I tried to think of what he would pick, and he tried to think of what I would. It was fun, and much to my surprise, we didn’t get every single question right. It was a bonding experience, nonetheless. If you’ve been together for a while, try playing it our way instead.

We only played the game once because after that, the questions repeat, and you will not learn anything new. If you wanted to play it again, you could play it as a never-have-I-ever game to find out what adventurous encounters your partner has had in their past. Only play that if you are both comfortable with compersion, not the jealous type, and securely attached. Skip any questions that you would be uncomfortable hearing the answer to.

If you’re in the early stages of a relationship, it’s a good idea to take notes while you play. You could even make a sexy to-do list of sorts with activities you’re both interested in trying together.

The quality of the questions varied somewhat, and most weren’t super tantalizing but were standard and informative queries. One question was: would you rather be on top or underneath during sex? So, some of the questions are best answered before you’ve had sex with your partner. Others were much dishier, like: would you rather rim your partner or have them rim you? And some were strange, for example: would you rather talk dirty to your partner during sex or have them say dirty things to you? That’s a strange question. Who is engaging in one-sided dirty talk during sex? And there are a couple that are very close to being duplicates. Two cards ask about whether you would rather be dominant or submissive, and two cards ask if you would rather masturbate with your hands or a toy. The deck is too short to have repetitive questions, but it’s still a clutch purchase for new couples.

My biggest qualm with the Lovehoney Oh! Kinky Confessions card game is a labeling issue. These are confessions, but they are not necessarily kinky—just adult. People looking for kinky questions will be disappointed. Not all sex is kinky, so I wish they had called it Spicy Confessions or something a bit more accurate. The act of discussing sex with your partner is healthy and normal, and it has nothing to do with kinks, fetishes, or bondage.

The card design is pretty and readable. It works well for playing a quick game with your partner(s). It’s simple and fun for couples, orgies, or adult parties of any kind.

The build quality is good. The cards feel like playing cards, meaning they are sturdy but not immune to bending or tearing. With careful play, they should last a while.

This game couldn’t be easier to use. You’re simply playing would you rather, but for sex. That means you can make your own rules or ignore the rules entirely. There doesn’t have to be a winner or loser, but there definitely could be.

Versatility

The website says that up to five players can play, which made me chuckle. There’s a limit on how many people can play a would-you-rather style game? I disagree. In the words of Lindsay Lohan, “the limit does not exist.” You can play it with as many people as you like, making it fun for an intimate night in with your partner or fun for a bachelorette trip if you want to take your friendships to the next level.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

This deck was a fun play-through for my partner and me, though we knew most of this information about each other when we began. You can gradually warm up or start at the deep end, but you’re bound to learn something and have fun at the same time.

Lovehoney Oh! Hot Knots is a lot like the Kinky Confessions except, in an ironic twist, it’s even kinkier. Hot Knots comes with a blindfold and a restraint, setting you up for an exciting power exchange. Instead of would-you-rather questions, this 52-card deck has scenarios that you and your partner can act out together. It’s an excellent choice if you’re ready for sexy instructions, but if the idea of acting out a kinky scene sounds like too much, you’ll be better off with the Kinky Confessions deck.

The gameplay is slightly more complex, since Hot Knots contains four ‘switch’ cards to change things up. But it’s simple, fun, and erotic. It costs $20 but is well worth it for someone who wants something slightly spicier than the Lovehoney Oh! Kinky Confessions game.

Domin8 Me Card Game is a good choice for anyone who wants a kinkier adventure. The gameplay is simple and works well for couples of any gender combination as well as polycules.
