The Lovehoney Power Play 7 Function Love Egg Vibrator promises “big pleasure in a small package.” Does it live up to that claim, or is this one instance where size really does matter? Read my review to find out!
Key Takeaways

While it’s touted as being a perfect toy for couples looking for their first vibrator, the intensities were too much to be enjoyable, at least for me. This was less “big pleasure in a small package” and more “overwhelming sensation in a small package.” Also, the wire connecting the toy to the controller means it lacks the subtlety of most egg vibrators. However, the feel of the egg itself and the fact that when you turn it on, the vibrations pick up at the setting where you left off make it impossible for me to call this a truly bad egg.
Who Should Try It? Someone who craves intense internal stimulation will enjoy this toy.
Who Can Skip It? Someone who’s never tried an egg vibrator will likely find the sensations too intense. Also, any couple who wants to take their play public with a discreet sex toy should not consider this an option, since the egg and controller are attached.

What Is The Lovehoney Power Play?
The Lovehoney Power Play is a small vibrating egg designed for vaginal use. Unlike most eggs, which are remote-controlled, the Power Play attaches to the controller via a wire. The single button on the control allows you to scroll through three different intensities (and I do mean intense-ities) and four different patterns.

First Impressions and Features
Unboxing
Lovehoney packaging is always simple and straightforward, and I am a fan. The box has a company mission statement and a guide to the product on the sides, and it comes with a small instruction booklet.

- Controller controls 3 speeds and 4 patterns
- 29-inch wire for the remote allows for some distance between partners
- Splashproof
Specifications
- Material: Hard plastic (Latex-Free, Phthalate-Free)
- Dimensions: Circumference: 3.5 inches, Insertable Length: 2.5 inches
- Color: Gold egg with a black controller

How Do I Use The Lovehoney Power Play?
The Lovehoney Power Play is battery-powered, so just pop in 2 AA batteries (not included) to the base of the controller, and you’ll be good to go! As with any egg, I’d recommend using a generous amount of water-based lube on the egg itself before sliding it in. Then, simply press the button on the controller to cycle through the three intensities and the four vibration patterns. One cool thing about this egg: the controller has a memory, so if you turn it off and on, it’ll start back up at the setting where you left off. As someone who usually only enjoys one or two patterns on offer, I am a huge fan of this feature.

My Personal Experience
Packaging
I typically like the Lovehoney packaging, and this was no exception. As you can see in the image below, it’s straightforward and basic, but I’d always take that over packaging that tries to be luxe by giving me a bunch of stickers that are just going straight to the landfill. I also like how the company prints so much information on the box itself instead of adding an extra booklet.

Design
While this egg is used with a separate controller, it is less of a “remote” control egg and more of a… “hybrid” control egg (stretching the metaphor to its breaking point, I guess if the controls were on the egg itself, that would make it an “office” or “in person” control egg). The toy is attached to the controller with a 29 inch wire. One of the major appeals of egg toys is that they can be used for some sneaky play out in public, but if I saw a couple using this on the subway, even I would do a double take (and believe me, I have seen some man-made horrors beyond my comprehension on the subway).
The name Power Play implies that one partner has control over the other’s pleasure, but since the 29 inch wire is not very long, it’s not as though your partner could hold the remote out of your grasp or surprise you by changing settings without your seeing (unless you’re blindfolded and/or restrained). I used this for solo play, but I’d imagine that a truly remote control egg would be better suited for play involving power dynamics, since I’d feel a lot more helpless (in the best way) if the controller weren’t attached to something already inside me.

Material
While I’m normally not a fan of rigid sex toys (especially internal ones), something about the feel and shape of Lovehoney Power Play absolutely did it for me. Sliding it in and out was incredibly smooth, and it sat perfectly inside me. All told, I think this is the best-feeling egg I’ve ever tried. At least, before I turned it on…
Stimulations
Normally, when I slide in an egg and press the power button, my first reaction is, “Is this thing on?”
But with this one, I nearly yelped out loud, even at the lowest setting! Serves me right for not taking the “extra powerful” specification seriously. Getting through the first three intensities was borderline painful, and even at the lowest level, it was too intense for me to fully enjoy. I’m more sensitive externally, and with the exception of one of the patterns, the intensity level was too much for me there, too. If you’re just starting out in the world of egg toys (let alone toys in general), I’d recommend giving this one a miss. But if you constantly find yourself disappointed that most eggs just aren’t powerful enough for you, this would be the perfect toy to try.

Sound Level
While the sound level doesn’t matter a lot on this egg (as opposed to one you’d be able to take outside without being arrested), it is still pretty quiet, which I always appreciate. Unless you’re like me and are really sensitive to those vibrations, in which case, you’ll be the one making noise.
Build Quality and Dimensions
The egg itself is quite small, with a circumference of 3.5 inches, and an insertable Length of 2.5 inches. Again, the combination of material, size, and shape makes this device feel amazing!

Ease of Use
Any controller with just one button is inherently easy to use, but the size and placement of the button on The Power Play made it especially convenient. The button is raised and it’s comparatively big, so it’s not a problem to go to a new setting, even with lube-covered hands. It’s also difficult to press the button accidentally, which I have been known to do. It is, however, a little tricky holding it down long enough to turn it off without switching it to another setting instead.
Versatility
Since this product has the controller attached to it, it is inherently less versatile than eggs that can be used in public. The egg itself can be used either vaginally or externally, but in my personal experience, it was too intense to be used externally for any length of time. The intensity also made it difficult to place it accurately on any erogenous zones, since holding the egg itself was uncomfortable in my hand, and holding it by the wire made it jump around too much to stay put anywhere exciting.
Warranty and Support
If you receive a rotten egg, this product is eligible for Lovehoney’s 1-year warranty. Lovehoney also has a “100-day Pleasure Guarantee”, meaning if you’re not happy with yours within 100 days of your purchase, they will give you a voucher.
Minor Issues I Found During Testing
A few times when I tried to turn it off, I accidentally pressed the button to go to a different setting. When they say to hold the button down for three seconds to turn it off, they actually mean it.
Review Summary
Pros
- The egg itself feels fantastic
- Controller is easy to use
- When you turn it on, it immediately starts up at the setting where you left off–no scrolling to pick up where you left off
Cons
- Extremely intense
- Wire connection means you can’t use it outside
Alternatives to The Lovehoney Power Play
The Nu Sensuelle Remote Control Petite Egg
If the Power Play is too intense, the Nu Sensuelle Remote Control Petite Egg (image below) has 11 different patterns and the ability to control the intensity of each one. The remote control also vibrates in tandem with the egg, making it less about a power play and more about mutual pleasure.
