Navigating the world of BDSM toys can be genuinely overwhelming. With so many options—cost, versatility, materials, and the type of kinky scenes you might enjoy—it’s easy to feel confused.
Don’t let all those confusing variables overwhelm you—my main aim here is to give you a straightforward, honest take on whether the Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag by CalExotics is actually a worthwhile addition to your collection, drawing directly from my thirty-five years in the BDSM community and extensive toy reviewing.
Key Takeaways

As a longtime fan of different, if not outright weird, BDSM toys, I wish I could say the Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag looks as it does while also doing what it’s supposed to do well. Unfortunately, I feel I cannot, as no matter how hard my partner and I try, neither of us would put it into our mouths — at least not comfortably.
Time and time again, we struggled to get it to fit, only to find it was far too large and stretched our mouths way too much. In the end, we frankly gave up. Now, if I were the only one trying to get it to fit, I would be a little more forgiving in my review, but when two people with two different-sized mouths failed, it’s likely you or your partner will experience the same problem.
Summing all this up, the Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag could have been a terrifically outrageous toy, one sure to be as erotically thrilling to wear as it would be gorgeous and kinky to be seen in. Though it manages the latter, as I just said, it can’t come anywhere close to pulling off the all-important former.
You Can Buy It on the Lovehoney website for $27.99.
What is a Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag?
Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag (which is more, shall I say, than a mouthful) is comprised of a pair of body-safe, non-reactive silicone straps, a nickel-plated buckle, and, in the center, a mouth-shaped, also silicone, plug-type gag. Though I called it a “buckle,” it actually does not have a prong or straps with holes. Instead, its opposite end strap is adjustable by feeding it into the ‘not-quite-a-buckle’ and using its thirteen raised notches to cinch it comfortably tight. Meanwhile, its plug is attached to the mouth-shaped gag by a short length of nickel-plated chain. Also, the entire center section is secured to the silicon straps with a set of small, equally nickel-plated rectangular metal loops.

First Impressions and Features
Unboxing
As you can see in the image below, the Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag arrived in a box depicting the product being worn by an apparently kneeling submissive woman. Inside, the gag is in a sealed plastic box containing a silica pack to keep the toy moisture-free and a folded, multilingual instruction sheet.

Speaking of that sheet, while it’s good they thought to provide a guide on how to use their product, the so-and-so (and that’s being polite) sheet’s type is ridiculously small, I couldn’t even read it with a magnifying glass (You can see how small it is in the image below).
Safety, especially using anything that may interfere with a person’s ability to comfortably breathe, should be any company’s paramount concern, making the use of such a small, unreadable font quite concerning.

How to Use a Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag?
While the buckle may require a little time to get used to, in principle, this one is fairly easy to use. In my experience, the greatest downside of the silicone straps, along with this unique buckle arrangement, is the difficulty of quickly removing the gag in an emergency. Normally, this would inspire me to give the toy a negative review, but unless the plug is secured, the person wearing this gag should find their breathing unimpeded.

My Personal Experience
Design
Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag 2-Inches Diameter is sure not your average, run-of-the-mill BDSM toy. A combination of an outrageous fetish plaything and a kinky fashion accessory, it’s definitely wild-looking, but as far as being a practical piece of sex-related engineering, it unfortunately fails. If CalExotics had made the mouth part wider, or perhaps not as bulky, it would have worked as they intended. But as it is now, there’s a very good chance very few–as in most people–would find it pretty much unusable.
Material
The Ring Gag is mainly constructed from non-reactive, body-safe silicone, with a couple of nickel-plated parts.

Build Quality and Dimensions
I can’t say the Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag is not well made, as, while it may not have been design-wise all that well thought through, it’s still quite well constructed. Looking it over, I could tell the manufacturer went a little extra into things like how its strap and buckle work, the artistry of its mouth-shaped center section, and even adding a chain so it wouldn’t accidentally misplace its plug.
Ease of Use
The Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag may be uncomfortable enough to be unusable, but playing with it isn’t especially challenging. If anything, the only time I got frustrated was when, being made of silicone, the buckle and straps tended to sort of stick together, making it more difficult to adjust the whole thing than it should be. That said, I found that applying a tiny bit of lube made the process way less frustrating.

Versatility
This BDSM gear was clearly designed and made for a single purpose. Not that this is a drawback, just that gags should always strive to be single-use toys, as otherwise they might do what they are supposed to: that is, comfortably and safely restrict the wearer from speaking while not interfering with the ability to breathe easily.
Warranty and Support
Lovehoney’s policy is that you have a year to return any defective products purchased from them for an exchange or a refund. Otherwise, you can only get either a refund or an exchange if the products haven’t been removed from their original packaging.
It’s worth noting that, as this particular product may not be a good fit for your or your partner’s mouth, you should really think twice before getting one. Once you take it out of its packaging, you can’t return it.
Minor Issues I Found During Testing
I truly wish I could give the Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag higher marks, but because the central mouth part doesn’t comfortably fit my or my partner’s mouth, I just can’t, in all good conscience. Yes, it scores majorly in the fetish looks department. Sure, clearly no small amount of thought went into how it’s supposed to work. But when all is said and done, you can’t put it on, then it’s next-to-useless as a gag.

- Fairly reasonably priced at under thirty dollars.
Alternatives to a Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag
Bondage Boutique Silicone Dog Bone Gag
A far more comfortable option, albeit with a more-than-slightly humorous bent, this body-safe silicone bit gag may be a touch more expensive, but it’s way easier to wear. Not only that, but the Bondage Boutique Silicone Dog Bone Gag has a more traditional type buckle, allowing it to be adjusted quickly and easily. More than anything, though, while it’s a little thicker than many other bit gags, it’s not so much to inhibit the wearer’s breathing. It’s also ideally suited for puppy-play scenes or domination-and-submission activities, especially when combined with a leash and collar.
DOMINIX Deluxe Leather Bit Gag
If you prefer more natural materials, look no further than this other bit gag, this time crafted from supple, high-quality leather. Like bit gags in general, it’s less prone to preventing the wearer from taking easy, comfortable breaths. But having said that, it is a little on the thicker side, so it may not be a great choice for people with smaller mouths. Still, it’s an excellently made toy, and for those into BDSM, black leather is nearly guaranteed to be a wonderfully kinky favorite.
