The Natural Love Company NepetaThe Natural Love Company Nepeta ReviewThe Nepeta is a vibrating, remote controlled egg made by The Natural Love Company. With so many great vibrating egg toys out there, does the Nepeta offer anything special, or is it just one among many in the carton? Read my review of The Nepeta to find out.

Key Takeaways

3.1 out of 5 stars3.1 out of 5 stars

With its intense internal vibrations and rounded shape, this egg certainly has a lot to offer…it just wasn’t for me. While the vibration patterns were delightful, as I’ve come to expect from The Natural Love Company, and it is quiet enough to take outside for some sneaky public play, the Nepeta’s uncomfortable shape made it hard for me to fully enjoy.

Who Should Try It? If you’ve tried internal eggs in the past and have been disappointed by their weak vibrations and/or small size, this might just be the upgrade for you. The remote control also makes it ideal for partner play.

Who Can Skip It? If you experience any kind of vaginal pain or discomfort, this is a toy to avoid. Most eggs are a bit tapered at the top, making insertion easy, but this one is thick and blunt all the way through.

You Can Buy It on the official The Natural Love Company website for $119.95.

What Is The Nepeta?

The Nepeta is a remote control vibrating egg with 10 different vibration patterns. As with the Cassia toy, the Nepeta looks and feels like a regular sex toy, but its core is made from recycled ocean plastic. It also comes with sustainable packaging, and the people at The Natural Love Company plant a tree for each one sold. Now, are all these environmental efforts just a virtue-signaling front to disguise the fact that their toys are uninspired? Not at all! Mother Nature aside, these toys are high-quality and offer some vibrations that are more than satisfying. Because really, buying an eco-friendly toy only to throw it away in favor of something better would entirely defeat the purpose.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

The Nepeta came in a box along with the other two Natural Love Company toys I ordered. Instead of each one being in its own plastic box, each toy came in a little biodegradable bag made of PLA and cornstarch, and a cotton drawstring bag to keep it in. Drawstring bags are one of my weaknesses when it comes to toys, so seeing all three lined up in the box like that absolutely sold me on the company.

Features

  • Remote-controlled (up to 5 meters)
  • 10 vibration patterns
  • Waterproof
  • Quiet

Specifications

  • Material: Recycled plastic (interior) and body-safe silicone (exterior)
  • Dimensions: Length: 7.5”, Max Insertable: 2.8″, Width: 1.6”
  • Color: Rose pink
  • Weight: 3.9 oz (including remote)
  • Power type: USB charger (included)

How Do I Use The Nepeta?

To charge up the Nepeta and its remote control, simply attach them to the magnetic USB charger included in the bag. Unfortunately, they can’t both be charged at the same time, so they’ll have to take turns. Once they’re ready to go, you’ll be able to tell because the light by the power buttons will stop blinking.

Turn on the egg by long pressing the power button until it glows. Then, with a generous helping of lube, insert the egg, leaving the tail part dangling out. Once you have it positioned where you want, turn on the remote control by pressing its power button. When the two are synced, use the button on the remote control to cycle through the different vibration patterns, or hand it over to a partner.

My Personal Experience

Packaging

Again, I love the way The Natural Love Company packages their toys, especially with the inclusion of the drawstring bags.

Design

The design was the one thing I really didn’t like about this toy. I much prefer internal toys with a tapered tip, making them easy to slide inside. However, the Nepeta was rounded and blunt on top, so the experience of inserting it wasn’t exactly comfortable. For comparison, the Seahorse Siren, a new favorite of mine, had a width of 2 inches, but since it had an extremely tapered tip, it felt more comfortable than Nepeta’s 1.6 inch width. However, if you don’t mind, or if you actively like, toys with a rounded tip, then the Nepeta will be a great choice for you.

On the plus side, while it only comes in one color, I like its soft pink shade more than the sad millennial beige of the Cassia.

Material

While it isn’t a squishy silicone toy (and most eggs aren’t), the Nepeta has the great feel of soft, smooth silicone. However, the inside is where it really shines. The Nepeta is made from recycled ocean plastics, so you’re helping the planet whenever you use it.

Stimulations

As with the Cassia vibrator, I was impressed by the unique patterns that this egg vibrator offered, and really enjoyed playing around with those. If you’re like me and can only fully, ahem, enjoy a sex toy with specific patterns, this toy, or anything from The Natural Love Company, is one I’d recommend.

The remote controlThe remote control

One thing I noticed: on the site, they advertise a “gentle touch” mode, but all the vibration modes felt somewhat intense to me. There didn’t seem to be a big difference between the gentle touch and the first real mode. None of them were too intense, as with some products I’ve tried, but I wouldn’t call any of them particularly “gentle”.

Sound Level

While the Nepeta wasn’t loud by any means, it may not be quiet enough for all the outdoor adventures you might want to go on with an egg toy. You could probably get away with it in a restaurant, public transportation, or rock concert, but you might want to think twice before taking it to your local library.

Build Quality and Dimensions

As with all Natural Love Company products, Nepeta is obviously very high quality, and feels great to use. With a length of 7.5 inches (and a maximum insertable length of 2.8 inches) and a width of 1.6 inches, it feels a little big for an egg toy. Of course I like the fact that there’s a long tail I can use to pull it out of myself when I’m done, but the combined length and width make it feel a little unwieldy.

Ease of Use

The button function is easy to figure out; simply turn on the toy and the remote and use the one button to cycle through the stimulations. The one aspect that was not easy was inserting the egg itself. Instead of being tapered at the top, it’s more rounded, meaning that inserting it won’t be pleasant for everyone. Though I’m sure that on the flip side, there are plenty of people who will love the feeling of sliding it in, so maybe that’s a feature you’ll really enjoy.

Versatility

As with any egg toy, part of the appeal of the Nepeta is that it can be used out in public. While it’s not quiet enough to use everywhere, you’ll be able to get plenty of naughty enjoyment with this one.

The site claims that it is a “versatile sex toy as the strong vibrations can be used to stimulate your clitoris and other erogenous zones.” And while they’re not…wrong, you’ll definitely have a better time with a dedicated external vibrator than trying to have an egg toy fit the bill. Holding a small, vibrating egg over your erogenous zones will definitely give your hand an exciting new sensation, but your clitoris deserves better. And trying to hold it by the tail and dangle it over the right spot is an exercise in futility, trust me on that one.

Warranty and Support

The Natural Love Company provides a warranty and a satisfaction guarantee for any toy bought in the last 365 days.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

My one issue with this toy was some discomfort at its size and design, but there will be plenty of people who will love the way it’s shaped.

Alternatives to the Nepeta

The Petite Egg

If you want to introduce an egg toy to your partner play, but equality is the name of the game (hey, we all have our kinks), the Petite Egg might be the toy for you. Not only does it function like a normal egg, but there is an option for the remote control to vibrate as well, meaning one partner can experience external pleasure while the other gets some internal fun. It also lives up to its name, and with a width of only 1.1”, it’s more beginner-friendly than the Nepeta.

The Lovehoney Wickedly Powerful Love Egg

If you’re a beginner to the world of vibrating eggs and have no intention of taking your playtime outside, the Wickedly Powerful Love Egg by Lovehoney might be your best bet. At $25, it has a much less intimidating price tag, and it allows you (or your partner) to have much more control over the intensity of the vibrations.
