Why You Should Trust Us

Hi, I am M.Christian, and I am the author of this article. You could say that kink and I go way back with my initial entry into the pleasures of bondage, discipline, and so much being back in the early 1990s. A lot has changed since then. But much also hasn’t, like the importance of playing safely, sanely, and always consensually. All of which has played a vital role in my reviews of all sorts of BDSM equipment and other pleasurable devices for My Sex Toy Guide.
All this put me in the right place at the right time to provide you with my recommendations for this year’s six perfect ring gags. That and what makes this type of BDSM equipment so enjoyable. Plus, how to use them without harming yourself or those you play with.
I also love hearing stories from my readers, so if you have questions, don’t hesitate to reach out. You can call me at +1 307-372-3895 or send an email to [email protected]—just make sure to include your name and contact information.
How We Picked The Products
Based on my extensive experience as a member of the BDSM community and, from there, as a teacher of how to do it safely, there was a lot to consider when choosing this list of the best ring gags.
Leading the way is factoring in how safe any of them is to use. Not because every piece of BDSM equipment or any sex toy should not be risky. Rather, as there is an extra high possibility of injury, ring gags should be held to a much higher standard. Therefore, I defined test criteria we could measure using well-defined quantitative metrics:
- Build Quality. Though affordability is good, it should never be so poorly manufactured as to be uncomfortable or dangerous. Sometimes this can be as simple as how well connected its various parts are. Similarly, how well it holds up during particularly active play sessions. Or, for that matter, average use.
- Body Safe Materials. As ring gags are all about holding the wearer’s mouth open, they should exclusively be made from body-safe materials. This includes any leather, metal, or silicone components. Ideally, everything would be non-toxic and durable. But since straps and such are not likely to be bitten or sucked on, not being body-safe is acceptable.
- Knowledgeable design. By this, we are referring to the fact that whoever created a BDSM ring gag is well-versed in how they will be used. It may sound obvious, but you would be surprised how often ring gags and other BDSM toys do not reflect this. For this reason, I tend to avoid devices made by companies or individuals who are not members of the BDSM community.
- Comfort versus intensity. As I pointed out, looking good is not as vital as how risk and irritation free it is to wear. Though most kinksters will admit to wanting to impress their playmates, it’s irresponsible to design and make ring gags that put style over comfort and safety.
During testing, we rated each test criterion on a percentage scale from 0% (Worst) to 100% (Best). We then calculated the overall score using different weighted metrics depending on the importance of the test criteria. Half the total rating comes from Design (25%) and Safety (25%). After that comes Build Quality (10%), Material (10%), and Comfort (10%).
When my testers had finished with their evaluations, I next moved on to back up their opinions with some good, old-fashioned research. From consulting with highly qualified BDSM experts to polling a large pool of experienced kinksters, I have put together this final list of my top-tier ring gags!
Everything We Tested
In this chapter, you can see a comparison table with all the products we tested. As you can see, each row has the test criteria our team used during the testing. To make our testing process even more transparent, we also included the raw test data so you can see how the products performed with each test criterion.

Why I love The Stockroom Silicone O-Ring:
When measured against all the other finely-made and well-engineered ring gags on our list, we found that The Stockroom Silicone O-Ring scored higher regarding comfort, safety, and effectiveness. From how easy it is to adjust to how secure it feels, not least how exceptionally well made it is, this is a wonderful BDSM toy.
What makes it even better is that its metal O-ring is covered in body-safe, medical-grade silicone, giving it a satisfyingly solid feel while being easy on the wearer’s teeth. This product can also be locked in place for more hardcore bondage enthusiasts.

We also appreciated that the designers clearly know that slightly elastic straps are the key to making it extra comfortable. So Stockroom’s ring gag is secure and never unpleasant or irritating to wear. A great combination, only improved by its metal connecting rings, making it as sexy as it is fun to use.
With its flexible silicone covering, adjustable strap, ideally-sized hole, and affordable price, it’s pretty obvious why we chose The Stockroom Silicone O-Ring Bondage Mouth Gag for our number one spot. Buying one is guaranteed to make you, your submissive, or anyone else you play with happy. Not to mention wonderfully, arousingly quiet. Highly recommended!

Minor issues I found during testing:
Not so much something I found lacking about the DOMINIX Deluxe, but it is the same for practically every gag. Its ring might be too small or too large for receiving oral sex. So I recommend taking measurements before purchasing any gags on our list.
You can read my full review of The Stockroom Silicone O-Ring Bondage Mouth Gag here.
Features:
- Material: The ring and strap are body-safe silicone
- Strap Length: 22.5 Inches
- Color: The ring and strap are black
Pros:
- Created from premium-grade, super-comfortable, body-safe, vegan-friendly silicone.
- Looks as it feels—which is awesome!
- Its $34.95 affordability makes it ideally suited for newbies and experienced kinksters alike.
Cons:
- Some people do, and some people don’t like ring-style gags.
- It may not appeal to fans of sex toys made from more natural materials.
- Depending on the person, silicone may or may not like the taste of silicone.
2. The Stockroom Leather O-Ring Gag: Budget Pick!

Why I love The Stockroom Leather O-Ring Gag:
Since no one’s wallet size is the same, we always include at least one high-quality budget model on our lists. This gets me to our next great ring gag, another one from the great and kinky minds at Stockroom. For just $19, you get something that’s simple though pleasurable, and is all-around amazing to use.
Balancing a quasi-industrial look and feel with kinky elegance, it’s sure to turn heads whenever a submissive wears it to their local dungeon. Made of a metal O-ring covered in high-quality leather, it uses cinch straps to comfortably hold it in place and the wearer’s mouth open.

Although I cannot praise The Stockroom Leather O-Ring Gag enough, it is not ideally suited for oral sex play. Otherwise, you would be hard-pressed to find another bondage product that is as well-made and pleasurable to play with.
Adding to its flexibility, it comes in three different sizes. The smallest has a diameter of one and three-quarters inches, while the next up is two and one-eighth. Then the biggest comes in at two and a half. But again, none are large enough to accommodate a partner’s appendage. That is, of course, not counting one or two of their fingers.

Minor issues I found during testing:
Though I described Stockroom’s Oral Sex gag as not great for oral sex play, it might have been more accurate to say it has much to do with the size of the wearer’s penis. Not that this is a big concern, as every product on this list has this issue. But just something to keep in mind when purchasing a gag from Stockroom or anywhere else.
You can read my full The Stockroom Leather O-Ring Gag review here.
Features:
- Material: Leather-wrapped stainless steel ring; strap is leather
- Strap Length: 22.5 inches
- Color: The Strap and ring are black
Pros:
- It comes in three different sizes.
- This model from Stockroom has easily adjustable real leather straps.
- It is a great value for just $32.
- O-ring size enhances its overall safety.
Cons:
- Rings are likely too small for receiving oral sex.
3. DOMINIX Deluxe Open Mouth Lip Gag: Lip-Shaped!

Why I Love the DOMINIX Deluxe Open Mouth Lip Gag:
The first time my partner and I laid eyes on the DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag, our mutual reactions were along the lines of “you’re got to be kidding me!” But—surprise, surprise, surprise—we were surprisingly surprised how easy it was to play with.
Not to say we didn’t struggle with it at least initially, as neither of us—or anyone on the planet, for that matter—has the same-sized mouth. For instance, I found I could wear it longer than my partner.

The DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag features a middle, mouth-shaped part held in place by a matching pair of faux leather, buckleable straps. The longer one of which has eleven non-reinforced punch holes, while the other has the aforementioned buckle. The middle also features two very small faux-leather bits attached to two small metal D-rings (image below).
The silicone section is very pliable, so it can stretch or distort enough for most—though perhaps not everyone—to hold in their mouths for several minutes.

So if this sounds appealing, and I definitely feel it is, then get your hands on or mouth around a lip ring gag. I am sure it will put grins on submissives and dominants alike.
Minor issues I found during testing:
While I may have praised the DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag for being pleasantly—and, frankly, unexpectedly—comfortable to use, I also need to mention it could do with a few small improvements. The first of these is that its buckle-and-punch-hole arrangement is more than a little lacking—like how, due to its tiny holes and the buckles’ just-as-small tangs, getting it on and off can take far longer than it should. Also, those same holes, because they lack any reinforcement, might tear over time. Lastly, I wish the manufacturer had ditched the buckles completely and used Velcro or another fast-release mechanism.

Features:
- Material: The ring, plug, and strap are made of body-safe silicone
- Strap Length: 25 inches
- Color: The plug, ring, and strap are all black
Pros
- Professionally made from high-quality silicone, faux leather, and metal components.
- Surprisingly easy to put on and wear—even for extended periods of time.
- Has a distinctive, fetish-fantastic appearance.
Cons
- Designed for oral penetration play, but in reality, it’s not as comfortable as other gags.
- Its buckle arrangement could be improved—or replaced with a safer option.
- If you find it’s not comfortable to wear, you won’t be able to return or exchange it.
Other Good Alternatives

Those gloriously kinky and brilliant BDSM engineers at Stockroom are at it again with this spider ring gag. While it may look like a cross between medical and industrial equipment, Stockrooms knows how to balance style with safety, comfort, and quality manufacturing. Its smooth yet strong leather and super-fine metal parts merge into a product that is the stuff of outrageously steamy fantasies. Its 1.45 ring size is also suited for pleasing wearers and dominants alike. Made all the more so by its adjustable strap.

For those of you into larger diameter rings than your run-of-the-mill gag, I have good news for you. Because the Bondage Boutique XL may be just what you have been looking for. Big enough for just about anything you want to use it for, the Bondage Boutique XL is as big as it is well-made. With a whopping 1.9-inch outer diameter, its silicone-coated ring is hypoallergenic, odorless, and tasteless.
And One To Avoid
![]()
As a longtime fan of different, if not outright weird, BDSM toys, I wish I could say the Scandal Silicone Stopper O-Ring Gag looks as it does while also doing what it’s supposed to do well. Unfortunately, I feel I cannot, as no matter how hard my partner and I try, neither of us would put it into our mouths — at least not comfortably.
Time and time again, we struggled to get it to fit, only to find it was far too large and stretched our mouths way too much. In the end, we frankly gave up. Now, if I were the only one trying to get it to fit, I would be a little more forgiving in my review, but when two people with two different-sized mouths failed, it’s likely you or your partner will experience the same problem.
What Is A Ring Gag?
A ring gag is an item with an opening in the middle that holds the mouth and jaw open when worn. People often find themselves drooling uncontrollably while wearing them, one of their intended purposes. The drooling is a massive turn-on for those into this kind of fetish.

But Why Should I Buy One?
The idea of being silenced during sex is a fantasy among many people, which makes wearing ring gags exciting. Domination and erotic humiliation allow the sub to be quiet throughout the experience in a somewhat submissive stance that is the basis of BDSM.
- Some partners get aroused by the uncontrollable drooling and sound made by the sub wearing the gag. This fetish complements the dom’s sexual performance, usually making them feel superior and ‘in control.’ With O-ring gags, you can also enjoy deepthroating, especially with the sub’s mouth wide open.
- Some women also credit the gag with allowing them to relax during spanking, anal penetration, and other sexual acts that might be uncomfortable at first. And because it takes prior conversations on safewords and the dos and don’ts, wearing an open-mouth gag fosters trust in couples and allows them to expose their most vulnerable selves. The acquired trust and openness strengthen the relationship bond, and both partners feel closer.
- Ring gags that feature harnesses allow the dom to control the sub like a tethered animal. This role-play creates a healthy sense of hierarchy, with one person in charge of the other. People who enjoy the dom-sub relationship enjoy the simple yet effective dynamism that these BDSM toys bring forward.
How To Use A Ring Gag?
Using a ring gag safely starts with an honest conversation with your partner on safe words and aftercare. Of course, it all starts with ‘100% enthusiastic consent before anything else.
Note: BDSM/Bondage are advanced sex acts, and you must take great care when including it in your sex life. Any action you take upon the information on this website is strictly at your own risk, and we will not be liable for any losses, injuries, and damages. Learn more.
- Safewords are one of the primary safety measures. You should establish phrases or non-verbal actions (if your partner cannot speak because of the gag), allowing you to control the experience and what’s happening. Whether it’s repeated sound, movement, or an object in hand, safewords ensure that you both enjoy the experience while ensuring your partner is safe at all times. Most importantly, ensure you follow your partner’s lead. Whether it’s a change of position, a break, or an immediate stop they want, follow their lead.
- After all the safety talk, it’s time to put the ring gag on. Make sure the harness is fully adjustable and feels comfortable around your head. The rings should also be comfortable in your open mouth – you don’t have to go for the largest at this stage. If it means giving up oral sex for a smaller O-ring, then go for it – you can always get a bigger one as you get used to the experience.
- To start the scene, loosen the harness so it goes around the head more easily. Let the sub hold the gag to the mouth, and you, as the dom, adjust the strap behind the head. It might take a while before getting the right fit, but ensure you get a signal from the sub that they’re comfortable. You can agree to use the shake of a head or the thumbs-up sign to signal the best fit. Also, lighten the mood and set the scene with some teasing questions for your partner. Remember, the experience is about having fun, and what better way to induce playfulness than teasing your partner when adjusting the harness.
- For aftercare, ask your partner what form of attention they’d want after role-playing. It can be anything: a glass of water, a massage, or cuddling. Aftercare shows that you care for your partner while building up for next time.
