First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

As you can see in the image below, the Red Hot Ember comes in a cardboard package with a plastic front. Normally, I like the simple, stripped down packaging that CalExotics offers, but for some reason, the plastic front on this box has a picture of a couple in a passionate embrace. I get wanting to keep some of the packaging opaque in order to hide the unsightly charger, but…I’m sorry, it looks extremely silly.

Besides, this is a toy targeted at AFAB people who want to indulge in a little self-pleasure—is a woman in lingerie and heels embracing a man who appears to be wearing a lanyard over his shirtless torso really the best way to do that? The phrase “male gaze” comes to mind, which is not ideal for this type of product. The gratuitous picture on the cover is also at odds with the mission statement on the side of the box, which talks about “[embracing] the spirit of self-fulfillment”.

How Do I Use The Red Hot Ember?

First, charge up the Red Hot Ember Flickering Tongue Vibrator using the included USB charger. Complete charge time is 2.5 hours, with a run time of between 30 minutes and 180 minutes, depending on how fast of a vibration setting it’s on. An LED light will flash while charging and glow solidly when fully charged. It comes with a bit of charge, so you can use it right when it arrives (and you’ve cleaned it off).

I would recommend putting some water-based lube on the Red Hot Ember before firing it up, simply to make the experience more comfortable. My Personal Experience

Packaging

While I made my opinions on the packaging design clear, the packaging is perfectly fine once you get rid of the plastic front and the shirtless man in his ridiculously long lanyard is out of your sight. The vibrator and charger are nestled in black foam packaging, and the instructions are behind the black foam (You can see all the included items in the image below).

Design

The overall design is really lovely. The soft silicone comes to a very fine point at the tip, allowing you to target just the right spot for your pleasure. Despite being so sleek and sexy, this sex toy is downright utilitarian in terms of how quickly and efficiently it gets the job done. No frills, no teasing, this product is pure, intense clitoral stimulation in one red-hot package.

The only unfortunate element of this design is the fact that it is so small and sleek yet has such a powerful motor. Without a separate handle, vibrations get sent right to your (or your partner’s) hand.

The Red Hot Ember is made of soft silicone. The tip is firm but flexible, and isn’t too hard on that sensitive area.

Stimulations

The 10 vibration patterns offer a wide variety of intensities. Personally, I would prefer to be able to adjust the intensity of each pattern, but having 10 to cycle through, I found one that really worked for me (and a few that could have worked if I stayed on those settings a little longer). However, the Red Hot does live up to its name, and even the lowest vibrations are pretty…spicy, so that’s another reason I would not recommend this toy to a beginner.

Ease of Use

As you can see in the image below, the Red Hot Ember only has one button, which makes it easy to cycle through the different patterns. While I dislike internal vibrators with one button located at the base, it isn’t a problem with clitoral stimulators like this one. The button is easily reached, and if the stimulation is too much, you can simply lift the toy up and change the speed (instead of having to turn it off, take the toy out, put it back in, and start again).

The only potential issue is the fact that the tip is so fine. I bought my first wand vibrator before I was completely sure where my clitoris was, but since the business end of the toy was so wide, I could get the desired effect simply by putting it in the general location. With something like the Red Hot Ember, though, some precision is required when it comes to placement. So, if you’re a beginner when it comes to the world of clitoral pleasure, I’d recommend finding another product.

Versatility

Since this tongue vibrator is so small and sleek, I would recommend it primarily for solo play, but there’s absolutely no reason not to use it with a partner. While it is splashproof, it isn’t fully waterproof, making it inherently less versatile than something that can be taken in the bath.
