Blush Gaia Eco VibratorBlush Gaia Eco Vibrator ReviewThe Gaia Eco Vibrator by Blush is a biodegradable, recyclable vibrator with multi-speed vibrations controlled via a dial. Was this toy as friendly to my body as it was to the environment, or would I rather it biodegrade sooner rather than later? Read my review to find out.

Key Takeaways

2.5 out of 5 stars2.5 out of 5 stars

While this toy has a lot going for it, especially for the price range, the cheap feel and difficulty of using it had a definite negative impact on my overall experience.

Who Should Try It? Because of its small size, versatility, and simple controls, Gaia Eco would definitely be best for a beginner. Multiple positive reviewers on the SheVibe website said they bought it as a beginner, and it was a great introduction to the world of sex toys.

Who Can Skip It? If you already have a collection of toys, or even one other toy, there’s no need to add this one to your nightstand drawer. Aside from the price, there’s nothing in particular to recommend it, and if you already know what you like in a sex toy, you can find something more suited to your specific desires.

You Can Buy It on the SheVibe website for $15.99.

What Is The Blush Gaia Eco Vibrator?

The Gaia Eco Biodegradable & Recyclable Vibrator By Blush Novelties has a long name, but it is a descriptive one. It is a vibrator from Blush’s eco-friendly Gaia Line, and it is indeed a biodegradable and recyclable vibrator. Its vibrations are controlled via a dial on the base, which is much rarer to see than a button system. But this dial design had its flaws, which I will get into later.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

This toy arrives very simply packaged—just the vibrator and a little piece of paper directing you to the Blush website if you have a problem with the item. Since it is battery-powered, it obviously did not come with a charging cable.

How Do I Use The Blush Gaia Eco Vibrator?

It’s been so long since I’ve used a battery-powered toy that it genuinely took me a second to realize why there was no charger included. To insert the batteries, unscrew the base, and put in 2 AA batteries on top of each other. To start vibing, turn the dial at the very bottom of the base until you settle on the vibration speed you like. When you’re done, simply turn the dial back until the toy turns off.

My Personal Experience

Packaging

The packaging is very basic, which makes sense considering the price and the eco-friendly goals of this product. Though I did get a bit of a laugh at the tagline “Feel Nature”; am I feeling something sexy like a waterfall or some waving wheat, or am I feeling a tiger bite or a tornado? There’s some gnarly stuff out there in nature, so I’d like a little more specificity before I put anything inside myself! Or is it just a nicer way of telling me to touch grass?

Design

The overall look of Gaia Eco is really lovely. I’ve often had my gripes about sex toys not being tapered enough at the tip, but while this one isn’t super tapered, the overall shape is so slim that it doesn’t really matter. I also really like the color. It’s an aqua blue with little dark flecks that make it look a bit like a bird’s egg. Even at $16, Blush still put effort into the look of this toy, and I respect them for it. It would have been so easy to just make it a basic pastel pink and call it a day.

The dial to increase or decrease the speed of the vibrations is a great idea…in theory. The toy is so smooth (especially with a bit of lube) that actually turning the dial while it is inside you is extremely tricky. I’ve complained about products with tricky buttons before, but this was the only toy that I literally couldn’t turn off, so I just slid it out while it was still vibrating. Which actually felt pretty good, but that’s beside the point. I shouldn’t have had to do it. A notched design on the dial would have gone a long way!

Material

Gaia Eco is made of BioFeel, a plant-based bioplastic that uses less energy and requires fewer greenhouse gases to produce. It also feels very much like plastic, in that it is completely hard and rigid. Feeling nature is one thing, but going back to the Stone Age and using dildos made of rock is a bridge too far! Seriously, if the rock was smooth, I’d imagine it would feel about the same. And for the record, if there are any companies that make dildos out of rocks—truly the most eco-friendly option— I would be willing to test them just to prove my point.

Stimulations

I like the idea of having a dial to control the vibrations, since it would hypothetically offer more customization than pressing a button to cycle through different prescribed options. However, not only was the dial difficult to use, but it didn’t offer a huge range of vibrations, which defeats the purpose. Personally, I prefer toys with patterns as well as different intensities, so a toy with only a minimal amount of intensities was not ideal for me.

Sound Level

SheVibe rates this toy at a 2/4 in terms of sound level, and that seems about accurate.

Build Quality and Dimensions

This toy definitely looks nicer than its $16 price tag would imply, and the quality seemed fine when I used it. My first internal vibe was much the same, so I can speak from experience when I say you’ll likely get pretty tired of this toy after a while. Also, it’s worth noting that a few people who reviewed it on SheVibe reported that it died out after only a few uses. While I appreciate that Gai Eco is eco-friendly, ultimately, the eco-friendly option would be to get a better toy that will last you a really long time, both because it’s high quality and because it’s fun enough to want to use.

Ease of Use

As with their Eco Bullet, my main problem with the toy, and the thing that prevented it from getting a solid 3-star (or higher) rating, was the difficulty I had using the dial. The toy itself is so smooth that there was no way for me to get any kind of purchase when I was trying to twist it, and I ended up just twisting the toy itself inside me. I think this is the first time I wasn’t able to turn a toy off while I was using it, and I just slid it out while it was still buzzing. While that…actually felt kind of nice, that would not be good for a beginner to have to deal with. While the dial obviously proved less of an issue when using the toy externally, it still took some effort to use it. Maybe I was spoiled by the Cute Little Fuckers company’s dedication to making toys suitable for people with hand disabilities, but operating a simple product like this should not have been so difficult.

Versatility

Gaia Eco can be used both internally and externally. I found the shape and the firmness of the toy made it very comfortable to use externally, since I could fit it right where I wanted and still grind up against it.

Warranty and Support

The Blush Bullet has a one-year warranty that covers electronic defects.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

The difficulty of turning the dial was my biggest difficulty with Gaia Eco.

Alternatives to The Blush Gaia Eco Vibrator

Lovehoney Wickedly Powerful Love Egg Vibrator

With an only slightly larger diameter (1.1” as opposed to 1”), the Wickedly Powerful Love Egg is a good option for anyone wanting a small, slim egg vibrator that has a dial to control the vibrations. The biggest difference is that the Wickedly Powerful Love Egg is, well, an egg. However, it is attached to the controller with a long wire, so if you don’t like the idea of an egg being fully inserted into your body, you can think of it as a regular vibrator that’s really long and gets really, really tapered towards the base.

The VeDo Boom

While also not a perfect toy, the VeDo Boom offers more versatility, with the ability to control the intensity of the different patterns. If you like toys that are more customizable, this is a great option.
