First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

I love unboxing any We-Vibe product. The box is sturdy, pretty, and unassuming—not needlessly sexed up, which I appreciate. Plus, it comes with a USB charging cable, cotton storage pouch, and a quick start guide and safety info in addition to the clit sucker (you can see all the items in the below image). The only thing missing is a sample packet of lube. Overall, the unboxing feels luxurious and giftable.

How Do I Use the We-Vibe Melt 2?

Unbox the We-Vibe Melt 2 and charge it by aligning the magnetic charging cable to the pins on the clit stimulator (it should look like in the image below). The website estimated it would take 150 minutes to charge and then last up to two hours (though the quick start guide suggested only ninety minutes of playtime). When I tested it, it lasted over four hours on a full charge on the lightest setting and then took eighty-five minutes to juice up again. One thing to note is that the magnetic pull is not super strong, so you’ll need to keep the device at an angle that doesn’t put pressure on the head of the charger, or it might come undone.

While the Melt 2 is charging, download the We-Vibe app if you don’t already have it on your phone. Then, wash it with warm water and antibacterial soap and dry it with a lint-proof cloth. Silicone loves to pick up debris, so a lint-proof cloth is clutch unless lint-clit is your kink.

There are two options for using the Melt 2: with the five-button interface (image below) or via the app. To use it without the app, you can use the plus button to turn it on. Pressing it again will turn up the suction up to twelve levels. The minus button lowers the intensity and turns the sex toy off when held down. The right and left arrows will take you through the six suction patterns, and the ~ button, when held down for five seconds, allows the toy to connect to the app. Pressing the ~ button briefly turns on Smart Silence, and pressing it again will turn it off. To turn on the travel lock, hold the plus and minus buttons down for two seconds. This also will turn off the travel lock.

If you’re using the app, press the ~ button for five seconds. It vibrates twice when Melt 2 is in pairing mode. Open the app and follow the instructions to connect the toy. From there, you can explore everything the app offers, including novel ways to control the suction. You can also transfer control to your partner’s phone if they have the app, too.

Next, use plenty of water-based lube (never silicone-based lube with a silicone product!) around the nozzle and on your clit. Then, position the nozzle around your clit until it forms a comfortable seal. Turn the clit sucker on and enjoy! If the stimulations are too much, try it in the bathtub first.

My Personal Experience

We-Vibe has a knack for integrating innovative technology in an easy-to-use, approachable package. And yet, I was surprised by the inclusion of Smart Silence in a product geared for partner use. The addition of this feature to a couple’s toy doesn’t make total sense to me because if you are using the toy while having sex with your partner, the need for extra discretion is low. Further, Smart Silence is a feature you love or hate. I find it triggers my anxiety, and I lose my concentration when it shuts off if I’m repositioning just a bit. But I understand why others may like it.

One other thing that gave me pause is the fact that the speed at which suction rips orgasms from me (and many other users) is a bit of a contrast to the slow burn of partnered sex. I didn’t know if this would work well or if I’d end up abandoned in Overstimulationville. I lowered the maximum intensity (something you can do in the app), which made the suction become significantly gentler. That gave me more time to warm up so that I didn’t feel pain and was still able to achieve multiple orgasms during partnered sex. And I found it worked incredibly well during partnered sex on the lower settings.

Packaging

As you can see in the below image, the We-Vibe packaging is pretty and practical. It comes with a storage bag but no lube, so stock up on something water-based before playtime! Better yet, the box it comes in is discreet. I was over the moon to find a storage bag. The last few products I’ve received haven’t had a storage bag, which is key to keeping the silicone body-safe for the foreseeable future. When silicone rubs up against silicone, the surfaces degrade each other, making a nonporous toy suddenly porous. So, don’t just throw this clit suck into your nightstand with your other silicone toys. Place it into its bag after you’ve sterilized it, and your clit and wallet will potentially thank you with years of orgasms.

Design

The Melt 2’s design is specifically meant to be more ergonomic for couple’s use, so it’s more slender than some clitoral suckers. The flatter shape makes it easier to slip between you and your partner in several positions without it getting in the way. Next, the wider opening of the mouth means that it will fit more shapes and sizes of clits, and that’s a good thing. It’s more comfortable to use, as well.

I loved that the Smart Silence feature has a button now. Some of the We-Vibe toys in the past set Smart Silence as a default, which can be annoying, especially when attempting a battery test. The button makes it easy to access and turn off, which is key to enjoying the feature.

The Melt 2’s redesign didn’t include a change in size, but it did include extra buttons. The original Melt didn’t have the arrows that made it possible to glide through the suction patterns. This addition adds a lot of versatility, especially for people who don’t plan to use the We-Vibe app frequently. It also didn’t have the ~ button at the bottom of the vibe, which escorts you into pairing mode to use the app or to quickly turn Smart Silence off or on. Smart Silence is a feature that you want to be able to turn off if necessary, so I find these additional buttons helpful.

Material

We-Vibe Melt 2 is made from body-safe, waterproof silicone! It’s durable, silky, and feels great against sensitive skin. I couldn’t love the material more!

Stimulations

How many stimulation levels are offered matters with suction toys. As someone who is extra sensitive to suction, I love that there are so many intensities because it gives me a chance to stay at the shallow end while catering to people who like to ramp up the suction more than I do.

However, even the lowest end of the spectrum was still powerful and thuddy. Pleasure Air Technology does not play around. The extra stimulation will appeal to power fanatics but may not be the best choice for someone new to suction or who has a particularly sensitive clit. If you feel like the suction is overwhelming, try it underwater. That helps it feel less aggressive. You can even move the suction device a half inch from your clit so that it rushes the water over you as stimulation, which is incredible.

Sound Level

When I tested the decibels, they ranged from 57 to 66. The Smart Silence adds a level of discreetness to all the noise that isn’t reflected by the decibels. And the sound is significantly more muted once it forms a seal around your clit. Need more privacy? Throw a duvet cover over you, and no one will be the wiser. It’s also difficult to hear if you use it in the bathtub.

Build Quality and Dimensions

The build quality is excellent. I’ve never tried a We-Vibe device that felt flimsy or shoddily made, and the Melt 2 was no exception to this rule.

The dimensions are like most other clit suckers except that this one is thinner—perfect for use during partnered sex! And they haven’t changed the dimensions since the original Melt. I thought the design glow-up might include extra thinness, but the dimensions were indistinguishable (You can see how it compares size-wise to some of my other clit suckers in the below image).

We-Vibe App

The We-Vibe app is one of the better ones on the market, but even so, it is not perfect. Getting the app to pair with the Melt 2 took a couple of tries, as you can see in the below YouTube video. It’s not uncommon for me to have to delete the We-Vibe app and reinstall it to connect a new toy, and that’s what it took to make it work this time, too. It’s not a big deal, but it might leave someone with a bad taste in their mouth, especially if they are technologically avoidant.

You have a couple of options when pairing your clit sucker to the smartphone app. While this may seem like added flexibility, it is added complexity. You can put your toy in pairing mode and follow the instructions in the app using Bluetooth, or you can scan the barcode on the Melt 2’s box to get connected.

Bluetooth didn’t work for me immediately, so I had to look for the box to pair it. I tried to scan the barcode, and that didn’t work either. Some people may have thrown their box away by the point they are trying to pair their toy, so it may be better to do away with that option. Eventually, I deleted the app and reinstalled it, and everything went well after that. If you’re having trouble pairing the toy, try reinstalling the app and it just may work.

Once in the app, it worked beautifully for me. I was not disconnected during play, which can break your trust when you’re nearing climax. The We-Vibe app gives you access to numerous ways to control the Melt 2. You can move the motor up and down, or there are more advanced ways to control it. You could even sync it to music if you’d like. And the device responds immediately to your touch in the app.

One of the more thoughtful features of the app is that you can set the maximum intensities where you like them. This feature was exceptionally helpful because I could turn the suction down to a gentle flutter, making the experience much more pleasant.

Ease of Use

The We-Vibe Melt 2 isn’t a clitoral suction device that you can use without perusing the manual first if only to get a sense of what you’ll miss out on unless you try the app. It’s versatile and customizable, but you must pay the price of the small learning curve in exchange for all the functions. It can take a few tries to pair the app to your device, too. On the flip side, it’s easy to clean and store.

Versatility

On the surface, We-Vibe Melt 2 doesn’t seem that versatile because if you don’t like suction, you’re out of luck! But if you do like suction, this beauty has a massive number of things it can offer. For one, it’s excellent on nipples as well as clits, making it a fun addition for anyone with sensitive nipples. It’s waterproof and has a travel lock, making it the ideal travel companion. You can have endless fun and customization with the We-Vibe app.

Warranty and Support

We-Vibe offers a two-year warranty on the Melt 2. This one will suck for the long haul!

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

I loved this sucker, and I almost hate to mention it, but $150 is a steep price to pay for a stimulator that only offerings one thing: suction. That said, you will get $150 worth of pleasure out of the Melt 2 if you like suction. It has a two-year warranty and has been lovingly crafted with durable materials. If you take good care of it (that means not using silicone lube and storing it in its bag, away from other silicone toys, charging it regularly, and otherwise using it according to the manufacturer’s instructions), this clit sucker will go the distance. My only other qualm is that it can be tricky to pair the device to the app.

The We-Vibe Melt original has some significant differences from the redesign. They changed the colors, with the original offering midnight blue or coral and the Melt 2 offering purple or sage. The Melt has the same retail price as the 2, but you can find it on sale occasionally for slightly less. Both are app-compatible and waterproof, but only the Melt 2 has Smart Silence and buttons that allow you to cycle through patterns.

ROMP Switch X

The ROMP Switch X is a product born from a collaboration with Lovehoney, the sex toy giant. If you are new to clitoral suction, this is your stop. It’s shockingly affordable, costing just $35. The build quality has more seams, and the aesthetic and unboxing aren’t as nice as the We-Vibe Melt 2, but again, it’s $35. The biggest downgrades from the Melt 2 are that it’s not waterproof (just splashproof) and it’s not rechargeable. It uses Pleasure Air Technology, the same kind of tech as the Melt 2, so it’s the perfect gateway drug to find out if you’d prefer a higher-end toy someday. However, if you know you like suction and have the cash, you’ll be happier if you spring for the Melt 2.

Womanizer Enhance

If you refuse to go the budget route but you still need to find out if you like clit suction, the Womanizer Enhance is a great option. Yes, it costs more than the We-Vibe Melt 2, but it has both vibration and clit suction. Plus, it offers loads of features and a durable build, ensuring you’ll get the pleasure you deserve. It won’t work for anyone who needs G-spot stimulation, but it will work for everyone else with a vulva.

The Womanizer Enhance and the Melt 2 look a lot alike (the Enhance was also engineered to be slim enough to use during partnered sex), but there are significant differences in features. The Enhance isn’t app-compatible, leaving people in long-distance relationships hanging. You can control the Enhance’s two motors separately, allowing you to create thousands of different stimulations. Lastly, the Womanizer Enhance’s user experience is less intuitive than the Melt 2’s, thanks to a confusing five-button interface. In general, if you prefer clit suction to vibration, the Melt 2 is the better option.
