Selopa CompanionSelopa Companion Vibrating Egg ReviewThe Selopa Companion is a sleek, silicone vibrating egg with two speeds and eight vibration patterns. Compact and simple, it promises to be perfect for on-the-go fun. Is this a companion worth keeping around, or one you’ll want to ghost? Please read my review of The Selopa Companion to find out.

Key Takeaways

2 out of 5 stars2 out of 5 stars

While the Selopa Companion is small and sleek, it leaves a lot to be desired, even as a basic travel companion. Between the twist-lock that opens too easily and the awkward button placement, I’d rather this Companion stay a casual acquaintance.

Who Should Try It? With its small size, intense speeds, and USB charger located in the egg itself, this toy could be a good choice for someone on the lookout for a new, discreet travel buddy.

Who Can Skip It? Since this egg does not come with a remote control, it wouldn’t be ideal for partner play.

What Is The Selopa Companion?

The Selopa Companion is a vibrating egg with a sleek, silicone oval shape and a chrome-finished handle that protects the handy USB charger inside. The sex toy has 2 speeds and 8 patterns, which you can cycle through with a single button on the bottom.

It does not work via remote control, so (despite the name) this egg is designed specifically for individual play. Its compact size and lack of a charging cable make it best suited as a travel companion for those times you’re flying solo.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

As you can see in the image below, the box is as simple as it gets. The Companion comes in a box with its picture on the front, along with the words, “Selopa: Love, Sex, Passion”. Couldn’t exactly tell you why, but I got a big kick out of that. The product comes with an instruction booklet and a warranty—no need for a cable, since the USB charger is integrated into the toy itself.

How Do I Use The Selopa Companion?

The Selopa egg already comes with a charge, so simply turn it on by holding the power button (located on the silicone portion of the body, right above the handle) for 2 seconds. The light will turn on, and the toy will begin buzzing at the lowest vibration setting. Press the button again, and it will vibrate at a faster speed. Press it a third time to begin cycling through the 8 vibrating patterns. To turn the device off, simply hold the power button for 2 seconds again.

To charge the egg, twist off the chrome-finished handle to uncover the USB charger. The indicator light will flash while the egg charges, and stay constant when it is fully charged. It takes about an hour to get a full charge, and the charge lasts for 50 minutes at the highest vibration level, and about 90 minutes at the lowest.

Clean with soap and water, gentle antibacterial soap, or toy cleaner. Since this is a silicone product, only use it with water-based lubricants.

My Personal Experience

Sorry to say, I don’t want to make this Companion a close friend of mine. The first thing I noticed when I tried it was that the chrome handle detached very easily from the rest of the egg, exposing the USB charger. While it didn’t happen while I was actually using it, I can imagine it happening pretty easily, especially while fumbling around for the power button, and that’s not something I want to have to think about.

Another thing I didn’t love about this egg was its oval shape. I typically prefer a vibe with a more defined tip. That’s my own preference, of course, but it would also make me hesitant to recommend this one to a beginner. I also typically use a ton of lube with even small toys, so having the button be on the smooth silicone made it difficult to press while the toy was buzzing around inside me.

I did, however, appreciate the vibration patterns. And I much prefer having a variety of vibration patterns instead of speed, so having 8 to choose from in such a small vibe is my favorite thing about this product.

Packaging

The packaging is extremely basic. There’s a box, the toy, a warranty card, and an instruction booklet. No frills, just vibes.

Design

As you can probably tell by now, most of my issues with this product come from the design. The oval shape certainly looks nice, but it is too wide to be truly comfortable. The placement of the button makes it awkward to press while the toy is being used. The USB charger being part of the toy itself and protected by the chrome-finished handle is a great idea…except for how easily the handle can twist off.

Material

The silicone is smooth to the touch and gives the toy a luxe feeling. I also liked the ridges on the chrome-finished handle, which made it easy for me to keep my grip.

While I liked the clear delineation between the vibe and the handle, I can easily imagine getting carried away and accidentally slipping some of the chrome-finished handle inside myself, which wouldn’t feel nearly as pleasant as the silicone.

I also didn’t love the fabric safety retrieval cord. Aesthetically, it looks disjointed from the rest of the product, and I don’t think getting my lube-covered hands all over it was particularly good for it either, since it can’t be wiped down like the silicone or chrome.

Stimulations

SheVibe ranks this toy at a 3/4 in terms of power.

Sound Level

SheVibe puts the Selopa Companion’s volume at a 2/4. According to the instruction booklet, it reaches a 60 dB sound level.

Build Quality and Dimensions

The Companion has an insertable length of 2.25”, a width of 1.43”, and a girth of 4.49”. Overall, this toy felt a little flimsy to me. The chrome-finished handle didn’t lock into place as fully as I’d like, and the safety cord started to fray after just one use.

Ease of Use

I do like having the USB located within the vibrator itself (yet another reason to use it for travel), since it means not having to deal with a tangle of cords. The fact that it already comes with a bit of a charge also makes it easy to use right away.

Then there’s the button. On one hand, a product with a single button is virtually foolproof. However, having to use that one button to cycle through all the speeds and patterns is a bit of a chore. Give me a +/- option any day.

Versatility

The oval shape and the chrome handle make it easy to use for external pleasure as well. If you’re traveling and only have room for one little pleasure companion, this is a good choice in that regard.

This egg is really only designed for solo play, since the handle is too small and the button too weirdly placed for a partner to be able to use it easily. Maybe if a partner could use it externally, but if that’s how you want to use toys together, a wand would be a better option anyway.

Also, bear in mind that the Selopa Companion is splashproof, but not waterproof.

Warranty and Support

Selopa offers a 5-year limited warranty.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

I don’t love the button placement on this toy. Since the button is part of the insertable silicone portion, there’s no way to change the speed or pattern without pulling it out at least a little bit (or all the way if you’re uncoordinated like I am). Having the button on the handle would have been a big improvement.

And yes, I’ll say it again as the risk of repetition: the handle covering the USB charger came off too easily.

Review Summary

Pros

  • Small size makes it ideal for travel
  • USB charger located inside the toy itself means no cords to deal with
  • 8 pattern variations make it easy to find one you like

Cons

  • Button placement makes it difficult to adjust speed and vibration pattern
  • An oval shape isn’t as comfortable as a toy with a more defined tip
  • The handle protecting the USB charger comes off too easily
