This device came with a sturdy, informative box and arrived discreetly on my doorstep.

How Do I Use the Lovense Spinel?

After unboxing, plug it in. The website suggested that the Spinel would take a whopping 160 minutes to charge, so this may be an overnight process. Order it so that it arrives at least a day before you need it because you don’t want to have to keep an eye on that battery for hours. Just like they say: a watched sex machine never fully charges. The website also estimated that it would last up to 257 minutes, which is a wildly specific duration. When I tested it, it took just over two hours to reach a full charge and then lasted significantly longer than the expected time on the first setting. When the heating element was in use, it drained much faster.

Putting the Lovense Spinel together wasn’t as complicated as I expected. I watched the video on the website, and it was as simple as removing the cap from the canister, placing the round clitoral knob base, and then choosing a dildo and twisting it on. One thing the video didn’t show is that my base came with a small black rubber circle around the base of the connector, and I didn’t realize I had to remove it first. Once I did, connecting it was a breeze. Ensure the clitoral knob is facing the same side as the buttons on the base; otherwise, it won’t be pleasuring what you want it to pleasure. If you would like to use thrusting with vibration and heat, you can only do so with the straight dildo. If you choose the curved dildo, you will only be able to access the thrusting.

My Personal Experience

When I first heard about the Lovense Spinel, I was intrigued that it offered the fastest thrusts. And the thrusting was speedy enough that I recommend using extra lube, so you don’t feel dried out or sore afterward.

Fast thrusting isn’t typically what gets me off, but I was still impressed by the speed. The thrusting stole the show so thoroughly that, at some points, I couldn’t tell if it was vibrating or not. And I noticed that when turbo mode is activated, it only lasts for one minute. For me, that was a relief. But for anyone looking forward to a full evening of absolutely frenzied thrusting, the one-minute maximum may be a letdown.

I had mixed feelings about the clitoral knob, which is the small ring that you affix to the base of the sex machine before use (You can see it in the image below). It’s a nice touch compared to the thrusters that ignore the clit completely, but it’s not soft and doesn’t have much give. So, the main sensation I felt was a hard knocking into my clit at a frantic pace. As someone with an extra sensitive clit, this was more often painful than pleasurable. Please note that the vibration and warming function is only compatible with the straight dildo.

After about an hour of thrusting during the battery test, the base was very slightly warm, but not worrisome. The truth is that everyone’s parts are different, and what spurs one person toward orgasmic bliss might be downright painful for the next person. I have a tilted uterus, so sometimes certain angles are excruciating for me, and this sex machine ensures that just about everyone will be able to find a comfortable, pleasurable option.

It also has multiple ways to hold it. You can grasp it in your hand, the old-fashioned way. You could use the handle or use the suction cup for hands-free pleasure. The handle design was extraordinary, too. It features a hinge that allows you to adjust the angle, making it perfectly comfortable to grip during longer play sessions.

Material

The dildo material was my favorite blend of silicone: silky, easy to clean, and not squishy enough to dull the sensations.

The Lovense Spinel is listed as IPX6 water-resistant. It’s not fully waterproof, nor is it submergible, but it is water-resistant and can be used in the shower, just not the bathtub. Splashing, yes; swimming, no. When using the device in the shower, use the attached silicone cover (image below) to prevent damage to the charging port.

Stimulations

The stimulations left nothing to be desired. There were numerous options, and trying them all was at least half the fun.

Further, I loved that it heats to 109 degrees. That’s warm and adds an extra layer of realism to your fantasy or role play. The thrusting speeds are also intense, ranging from 395 to 1450 thrusts per minute. That’s so far beyond human capability, even at the low end. When stimulations are listed that high, I wonder if the company is banking on most people’s inability to count that fast. I used a metronome to estimate the thrusts at the low end of the scale, and believe it or not, it came in right around 400.

Sometimes, when I would press up against the base, the thrusting would stop briefly and then restart with a burst of thrusting. The motor shorting out was a bit of a bummer.

Sound Level

In my experience, sex machines are known for two things: supernatural intensity and being loud, loud, loud. They’re usually devices that demand that no one else is home during use unless you want them to be in on the activity. When I tested the noise level, Lovense Spinel’s decibels started at 54 and topped off at 57, which is relatively quiet for a sex machine.

Build Quality and Dimensions

This sex machine is much smaller than most, and for storage and travel purposes, wildly more convenient (You can see how it compares to a curling iron in the image above). The dildo sizes are reasonable, too, focused more on G-spot stimulation than extreme girth or length. The length of the thrust was smaller, too, which I find more pleasurable because the tip of the dildo never strays too far from my G-spot. The dimensions make this an everyday indulgence rather than something you’ll only want to use occasionally.

Lovense App

The Lovense Remote App is fun to use and adds an outrageous amount of versatility. You can sync the sensations to the background noise in your house, a favorite song, or even send your partner a link to let them control it for a hot minute. I could spend all day praising this app, but it’s the best I’ve found in terms of versatility, ease of use, creativity, customizability, and monetization.

The app makes this a uniquely helpful tool for cam models. The Lovense site makes tipping a breeze for your audience, and when they tip at certain amounts, you can allow them to control the Spinel temporarily.

Ease of Use

After unboxing, I was intimidated by the numerous components I would need to assemble, but that’s nothing new. I’m always a little worried that something, whether a sex toy or IKEA furniture, is going to best me intellectually. I was grateful for the video that shows you how to set up the device on the website, because I learn better visually. The process was virtually foolproof.

There are only three buttons on the Spinel, which is quite a simple setup compared with most sex machines I’ve used. The top button is the power button, which you press for three seconds to turn on or off, or just briefly to pause or resume the stimulation. Below that is the vibration button, and below that is the thrusting button. The vibration has three intensity levels and four patterns; the thrusting button has four levels and one pattern. If you hold the thrusting button down for three seconds, it activates turbo mode, which goes full speed but only for one minute. But the website recommends using the turbo mode only with the straight dildo, not the curved one.

Washing it is relatively straightforward, especially for a sex machine. Rinse the base, but don’t submerge it. The silicone attachments can be cleaned with warm water and antibacterial soap, but don’t submerge them either.

Overall, Lovense did an excellent job of designing a versatile toy that isn’t overly complicated.

Versatility

Lovense Spinel offers versatility—as long as you’re in the mood for thrusting and penetration. And the bad news is that the shapes aren’t safe for anal play, so only use this device vaginally. It also has a heating element, making it perfect for role play, and the app compatibility means it’s a dream for people in long-distance relationships. The device outpaces nearly every other thruster I own with versatility, but is only moderately versatile compared with other sex machines.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

My primary complaint is that the motor occasionally shorts out when pressure is applied. I also wish that you could use the vibrating feature with the curved dildo, since the curved dildo targeted my G-spot more thoroughly.
