Hide & Play Lipstick VibratorHide & Play Lipstick Vibrator ReviewThe Hide & Play Lipstick Vibrator by CalExotics promises to be a powerful yet completely discreet vibe disguised as, what else, a lipstick.

Is this worth adding to your cosmetics case, or was this formula just not for me? Read my review of the Hide & Play Lipstick vibrator to find out.

Key Takeaways

3.8 out of 5 stars3.8 out of 5 stars

Hide & Play absolutely succeeds at its primary function: its lipstick guise keeps it very discreet, as does its sound level. It’s also intense enough that if you want to do some public play, it’ll get you there quickly. However, the fact that it uses a battery instead of being rechargeable, and the fact that the button is a bit difficult to press, were two minor downsides as far as I was concerned.

Who Should Try It? If you want to enjoy some public play (or even keep your vibe extra hidden from prying eyes in your home), Hide & Play is fantastic. It’s discreet, both in terms of looks and noise level, yet the intensity allows for some serious pleasure. The angle on the lipstick also makes it very easy to use while standing up, which is probably how you’ll be using it if you take it outside.

Who Can Skip It? If you’re not into public play and have no need to be super discreet, while Hide & Play is perfectly serviceable, there are better options for a clit vibe out there.

You Can Buy It on the Babeland website for $29.99.

What Is The Hide & Play Lipstick Vibrator?

The Hide & Play Lipstick Vibrator is an external vibe by CalExotics (a brand that I’ve found can be hit or miss) that looks like a lipstick. No, I don’t just mean that the tip is angled (although it is)—it is designed to look like a tube of lipstick, complete with a cap. Meant for public play, no one will recognize this toy for what it is unless they have one themselves.

The packagingThe packaging

It has 8 vibration modes (3 regular vibes that increase in intensity and 5 patterns), and is powerful enough to get the job done, despite its small size. If you want to take your pleasure public, this is the perfect toy for you.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

The packaging for Hide & Play is very basic, with two plastic sheets covering the toy and the battery. For $30, that’s fine, but something makeup-themed would have been appreciated. It comes with an instruction manual, which is always handy:

Specifications

  • Material: Plastic and silicone
  • Dimensions: Length: 3.75”, diameter: 1”

How Do I Use The Hide & Play Lipstick Vibrator?

  1. First, twist off the bottom of the lipstick and insert the included N battery.
  2. Put the cap back on, then press the bottom button to turn on the toy and cycle through the 8 different vibration speeds and patterns.
  3. Once you’re done playing, long hold the button to turn it off.

Hide & Play can be used with water-based lube, however, if you’re using it in public (which is really what it’s designed for), I wouldn’t necessarily recommend lube just because of how messy that would be. I usually put lube on everything, but I was just fine without it in this case.

My Personal Experience

Design

For its intended purpose, the design of Hide & Play could not be better. First of all, it looks like a lipstick, especially with the cap on. Even the XO logo on the top could easily be a makeup brand logo. The lipstick section is slightly less realistic, simply because silicone is…not lipstick, but at a distance, it would still fool people. The tip of the vibe is angled, which I really appreciated. Not only does it make the toy look more like a lipstick, but it also makes it a lot easier to use while standing up—a position you’re likely to find yourself in during public play.

The button on the bottom was a little awkward to press, but designing a button system for a vibrator this small is hard enough, but even more so for a product that has to be discreet. Having the button on the bottom isn’t the worst, and if you’re using it for partner play, then that will be your partner’s problem.

Material

Hide & Play is mostly made of plastic, with silicone for the red lipstick portion. The silicone doesn’t feel that great, since it isn’t super soft. Normally, I’d complain a lot more about that, believe me, but since this product is meant to be used in public and on the sly (potentially even over your underwear), the silicone doesn’t need to feel luxurious and delicious as far as I’m concerned. Obviously that’s still going to be a deal breaker for some people, but this toy isn’t intended to be used in drawn-out, sensual self-care sessions.

Stimulations

The Lipstick vibe has 8 stimulations, 3 of which are regular vibrations that increase in intensity. I found the vibrations pretty powerful, so you won’t have to deal with a frustratingly slow build-up. I also think that 8 vibrations is the perfect amount. Normally, I prefer the option to be able to increase/decrease the intensity, but for something designed specifically to be used quickly and in public, the limited functionality is a feature, not a bug.

Sound Level

I found Hide & Play very quiet, so unless you’re trying to get freaky in a library, you should be fine using this whenever and wherever the spirit moves you.

Build Quality and Dimensions

Hide & Play isn’t what I would call super high quality, but again, for what it is, it’s absolutely fine. The silicone just didn’t feel great, and the plastic felt a little cheap and, well, plastic-y. With that said, it looks just like a lipstick you’d throw in your purse. It’s also the same size as a lipstick, at 3.75 inches with a 1-inch diameter.

Ease of Use

The only thing that might trip you up while using Hide & Play is the unresponsiveness of the button. Overall, this is probably a good thing, since you don’t want your lipstick to suddenly start vibrating in your purse (or worse, your pocket). However, if you want to change up the vibration pattern, holding it and really pressing it down is a little bit awkward.

Versatility

This toy is pretty much perfect for one thing and one thing only—being used as a portable, discreet toy for some public play. However, I really can’t recommend it for any other scenario. It’s too small and too cheap-feeling to use in a scenario where you might want to feel luxurious and sensual. I know that form follows function, and in that regard, Hide & Play is an absolute winner. But if you want to use it for any other function than public play, then its form will not be ideal.

Warranty and Support

The Lipstick has a 90-day warranty, as well as the option to pay extra (starting at $2.79) in order to cover accidental damage.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

My biggest issue with Hide & Play was the bottom button. I understand that because of its design, the button couldn’t really have been anywhere else, and that an overly sensitive button would be a big downside. However, the button being hard to press might make for some awkward fumbling wherever you’re using it. I think your best bet would be to figure out beforehand which vibration mode is your favorite, then settle on that one whenever you use it.

Alternatives to the Hide & Play Lipstick Vibrator

The Vesper 2

If you like the idea of a vibrator to take out in public, but want to be a little more bold about it, the Vesper 2 might be a better option for you. Designed to look like a necklace, this sex toy can hide in plain sight, not in a purse or pocket. It’s pretty enough to be a real piece of jewelry, and discreet enough that I’m willing to bet no one will know what it really is unless you tell them.

Lovense Exomoon

If you really like the idea of a discreet lipstick vibrator, but really want to use it for partner play (or the sound of the button on the Hide & Play Lipstick really turned you off), the app-controlled Lovense Exomoon would be a great choice for you. The app is great, with the ability to customize your own vibration patterns, and can be controlled by someone across the room or across the country, letting your playtime partner call the shots.
