The Stockroom 18" Basic Leather FloggerThe Stockroom 18″ Basic Leather Flogger ReviewPicking the impact play toy that will do everything you or your partner wants is not easy. After all, there are a lot of important things to consider, from build quality to cost, versatility to how fashionable it will look when you swing it. Thankfully, I have spent no small amount of time not only as a member of the kink community but also as a pretty prolific erotic writer and sex toy reviewer.

Meaning, I can help you cut to the proverbial chase whether or not The Stockroom’s 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is something you should—or should not—add to your BDSM playbag.

Key Takeaways

4 out of 5 stars4 out of 5 stars

The Stockroom 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is a good middle-range toy. By this, I mean it’s neither too light and stingy nor too heavy and thuddy, so it’s ideally suited for building up to more intense scenes or, conversely, easing someone down from, say, a caning. Or, to put it another way, it’s a fine addition to anyone’s BDSM playbag, be they hard or softcore impact play fans.

Who Should Try It? A rarity among whips, it is an excellent choice for experienced BDSM players and those new to the joys of impact play as well. Plus, it is made and sold by The Stockroom, a company most BDSM community members—myself included—feel is one of the best toy makers in the world today.

Who Can Skip It? Sure, if having your backside swatted with a cane, whip, flogger, or merely just your lover’s right or left hand does not make you hot and/or bothered, you may want to skip getting the 18″ Basic Leather Floggers.

You Can Buy It on the official Stockroom website for $75.

What Is The Stockroom 18″ Basic Leather Flogger?

The 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is a mid-sized, mid-range impact play toy. Its eighteen falls and handle’s exterior covering are made from premium-quality leather, providing a warm, thuddy feel when used. Each fall is one foot or twelve inches long and is slightly less than a quarter inch wide. Four stainless steel brads hold it together and it also features a comfortable seven and a half inch leather strap. In an interesting style choice, the thirty-two falls are cut to give each an angle tip, which can occasionally produce a slightly stingy sensation.

First Impressions and Features

Unboxing

The 18″ Basic Leather Flogger does not come with anything but itself and an attached Stockroom product card. However, this is not a negative, as there really isn’t any reason why it should have been shipped in anything but a plain cardboard box, as floggers tend to be quite sturdy toys. Equally, the company did not need to add any directions, as using them is relatively simple.

How to Use The Stockroom 18″ Basic Leather Flogger?

Though floggers and other impact-play toys may look really easy to use, there are a few very important things to always keep in mind to use them safely. The first of these is that while this flogger can technically be employed on a person’s shoulders, thighs, or perhaps even on their chest, I do not recommend anyone strike these areas with anything. I say this as, unlike the human posterior, using too much force or striking in the wrong way can seriously harm someone’s bones, nerves, and tendons.

With this in mind, please stick to using it to impact your partner’s rear end and nowhere else. In fact, the only thing you really need to be careful of when hitting someone’s butt is to avoid hitting their tailbone, which might injure their spine.

When swinging a flogger, also do your best to avoid wrapping, which happens when it falls and hits, causing its ends to snap around and produce an unarousing sting instead of an exciting, thuddy sensation. If this sounds challenging, try practicing with a pillow until you can use yours correctly. Trust me, your playmate or partner will be very grateful you did.

On a side note, they are best used rhythmically rather than erratically. Think of swinging them like playing the drums, as a nice steady beat is sure to get your partner’s endorphins flowing—which is the name of the game when it comes to fun, fun, fun impact play scenes.

My Personal Experience

My partner and I are old hands at using floggers—and at having them used on us. Because of this, we were extremely excited to give The Stockroom 18″ Basic Leather Flogger a whirl. From the get-go, it scored a lot of good points for being fashioned from natural leather, as synthetics are frequently known for delivering more stingy, less thuddy sensations.

That said, we wished it were a lot wider and heavier, as both of us prefer a deeper kind of impact. Not that the 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is a bad BDSM toy, which it in no way, shape, or form is, but thicker, wider falls are more to our liking.

Otherwise, The Stockroom 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is a greater-than-great impact play toy and one each of us has no problem—at all thoroughly recommending anyone get hold of, be they long-time BDSM players or those for whom kink is a new territory to explore.

Design

The 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is elegantly simple as basically just thirty two, foot long falls securely connected to a cylindrical, leather-shod, five and a half inch handle. Its seven-and-a-half-inch strap and its various falls are secured to the handle via matching, little over half-inch-wide leather pieces and two sets of two stainless steel brads. The entire product, not counting its strap, is, as its name indicates, eighteen inches long. Like most BDSM gear The Stockroom makes as well as sells, their 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is excellently crafted and is well worth its seventy-five dollar price tag.

Material

The Stockroom 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is primarily formed out of high-quality, natural leather, with the exception of the four brads that hold the product together. As far as I can tell, most of its handle is also leather, as when you look at the strap end, you can see that the company essentially wrapped a leather sheet around what could be a likewise leather core.

Build Quality and Dimensions

It’s no wonder the kink community so highly regards the Stockroom, as their 18″ Basic Leather Flogger clearly demonstrates they know everything there is to know about making superb impact play toys. Everything about it, from the premium leader used in its construction to how its thirty two, foot long falls and handle as perfectly balanced screams BDSM professionalism.

Ease of Use

Not to repeat myself, but though floggers may look super-simple to swing (try saying that three times fast), you should learn as much as you possibly can about how to swing them before trying to do the same to a living, breathing person. As I mentioned, only use your Stockroom 18″ Basic Leather Flogger on your partner’s backside and nowhere else. Not forgetting, as you do, to stay well away from their tailbone while ensuring its thirty-two falls land so their tips don’t produce any stingy wraps.

If rhythm isn’t your thing, I recommend putting on some suitably bouncy music. After all, it’s the reason why so many kinky playspaces play tunes with a great beat for people to beat their partners to.

Versatility

Again, while you may see impact play toys being used on other parts of the body, unless you are very (as in very, very, VERY) well versed in the pleasures as well as this kink activity’s potential risks, never hit anyone except for their nice juicy backsides, not only has mother nature made them ideally suited for spanking but their proximity to the genitals is also why getting flogged can be so gosh-darned arousing.

Warranty and Support

Further proof of why The Stockroom is such a kink-respected company, they have a top-notch return and exchange policy. If, for any reason, you purchase from them and the product is defective, you can contact them to arrange a replacement or a refund.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

Not really a criticism, as The Stockroom’s 18″ Basic Leather Flogger is a totally, completely, absolutely great impact play toy, but my partner and I both felt its thirty-two falls could have been a bit wider and thicker. Again, I’m not taking any points away from it or the brand, as it’s really just a matter of preference.

Other than that, I honestly can’t think of anything else. I think The Stockroom could have done better, which is a huge and much-deserved compliment.

Pros

  • Made from high-grade, natural leather.
  • Boasts thirty-two, foot-long, relatively narrow falls.
  • Solidly built, perfectly balanced, and super fun to use.

Cons

  • It may not appeal to people who prefer heavy impact play toys.
  • $75 puts it more than slightly on the expensive side.
  • Its falls could be a little longer, as twelve inches can be challenging to control.
