While not a major issue, I do wish the toy came in a sealed plastic bag, as its silicone parts tend to attract all sorts of “stuff,” like my cat’s fur, so you have to clean it before using it for the first time.

DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag isn’t hard to use, but describing how to get it where it’s designed to go most definitely is. Giving it my best shot, if you look at the gag, you’ll immediately see the middle, mouth-sharped section has a wide-ish indentation circling the back between its pouty lips and a narrow flange. This is where the wearer is supposed to place—as I just mentioned—their teeth, lips, and/or gums.

After this is accomplished, the buckle (image above) can be employed so that it won’t become dislodged, though never so tight as to make wearing the toy painful or even distractingly uncomfortable.

Fortunately, it’s extremely soft and malleable, so while that might sound unpleasant, it can be worn for quite some time without undue discomfort.

My Personal Experience

The first time my partner and I laid eyes on the DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag, our mutual reactions were along the lines of “you’re got to be kidding me!”  But—surprise, surprise, surprise—we were surprisingly surprised how easy it was to play with.

Not to say we didn’t struggle with it at least initially, as neither of us—or anyone on the planet, for that matter—has the same-sized mouth. For instance, I found I could wear it longer than my partner.

However, I’d like to say that according to its advertising, the DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag was created so the wearer could have something like a sex toy or penis inserted into their mouth while it was buckled into place. Unfortunately, we discovered that really wasn’t possible, or at least not with anything larger than an inch in diameter, as otherwise, the gag kept getting knocked out of place. I expect this is because silicone, even when wet, tends to grab onto things too easily, especially body parts or other silicone toys.

Design

The DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag features a middle, mouth-shaped part held in place by a matching pair of faux leather, buckleable straps. The longer one of which has eleven non-reinforced punch holes, while the other has the aforementioned buckle. The middle also features two very small faux-leather bits attached to two small metal D-rings (image below). The silicone section is very pliable, so it can stretch or distort enough for most—though perhaps not everyone—to hold in their mouths for several minutes.

DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag is a mixture of non-reactive, body-safe silicone, various metal components, and faux leather. The mouth-shaped gag is made of silicone, while the straps and a few other parts are made of faux leather. The metal parts include the buckle, its twin D-rings, and the five steel grommets that hold the toy together.

Build Quality and Dimensions

From end to end, the gag measures around 25 inches. The buckle-fitted strap is 7 inches long, while the opposite, punch-holed strap is a little over a foot. Both straps are a little over three-quarters of an inch wide and a sixteenth of an inch thick. The silicone mouth isn’t easy to measure, but call it approximately 3.5 inches long, 3 inches high, and around 1 inch thick.

For a less-than-twenty-five-dollar BDSM plaything, the DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag is pleasantly well-made, with all sorts of high-grade details like how it manages to mix extremely pliant components with far more sturdy ones. For example, despite how much my partner and I played with it—and how our mouths are nowhere near the same width or height—the gag showed no signs of breaking.

Ease of Use

As I noted previously, though it looked like a not-exactly-comfy plaything, the DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag was actually fairly comfortable to use. Not that my partner and I weren’t able to keep our mouths shut for a particularly long time, but far more than either of us expected. Having said that, you may have to do some serious pondering before picking one up, as if you or your playmate find it too painful or just plain awkward, you can’t return it.

Versatility

DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag is a one-shot toy—and there’s nothing wrong with that. As I’m fond of saying, gags should never be made from whatever you might happen to have lying around. By the same token, a professionally made product like this one shouldn’t be used for anything other than its intended purpose. For starters, you’ll probably end up breaking the gag or, worst-case scenario, potentially injuring yourself or your partner.

Minor Issues I Found During Testing

While I may have praised the DOMINIX Deluxe Silicone Open Mouth Lip Gag for being pleasantly—and, frankly, unexpectedly—comfortable to use, I also need to mention it could do with a few small improvements. The first of these is that its buckle-and-punch-hole arrangement is more than a little lacking—like how, due to its tiny holes and the buckles’ just-as-small tangs, getting it on and off can take far longer than it should. Also, those same holes, because they lack any reinforcement, might tear over time. Lastly, I wish the manufacturer had ditched the buckles completely and used Velcro or another fast-release mechanism.
