There’s a reason why people who like to be penetrated sometimes choose very large dildos: sometimes we enjoy the feeling of taking as much as we can. And deep penetration in partnered sex fills us up both physically and emotionally.

We’re going to show you eight sex positions where most couples are able to achieve very deep penetration. Expanding your horizons is good for your body, your brain, and your connection with your partner.

1. Lying Doggy (Prone)

In the lying doggy position, the receiving partner gets to enjoy deep penetration and G-spot stimulation with very little effort. It’s a great position when you’re feeling a little lazy, a little submissive, or a little of both.

What We’re Doing

  1. The receiving partner lies face-down on the bed with legs slightly spread. They can put a firm pillow under their hips for support or to adjust the angle.
  2. The penetrating partner lies face-down on top of the receiving partner, between their legs.
  3. The penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.
  4. The receiving partner can close their legs to make their vagina tighter or spread them wider for even deeper penetration.

2. Cowgirl

Cowgirl lets the receiving partner control the angle, depth, and pace of penetration. They can bear down as hard as they want to take as much as they want.

This is also a good position if the penetrating partner’s penis is larger than average, since the receiving partner can ease into the experience. And here, the penetrating partner gets to take their turn relaxing and enjoying the ride.

What We’re Doing

  1. The penetrating partner lies on their back with their legs together.
  2. The receiving partner straddles, kneels, or squats over the penetrating partner.
  3. The penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.

3. Missionary (Legs on Shoulders)

Missionary is a super popular, tried-and-true classic. It’s intimate and connected, and it’s generally pretty comfortable for both partners.

If you’re looking to kick it up a notch and go for some deeper penetration, try having the receiving partner drape their legs over the penetrating partner’s shoulders. This opens up the receiving partner’s pelvis and changes the angle of penetration, both of which let the penetrating partner get much deeper (even if their penis is smaller than average).

What We’re Doing

  1. The receiving partner lies on the bed with legs spread and knees bent. They can put a firm pillow under their hips for support.
  2. The penetrating partner kneels between the receiving partner’s legs.
  3. The receiving partner lifts their legs (perhaps with the penetrating partner’s assistance) and places them on the penetrating partner’s shoulders. Depending on the heights of the partners and how flexible the receiving partner is, this could be feet resting on the penetrating partner’s collarbones or knees over their shoulders.
  4. The penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.

4. Doggy-Style

When people think about deep penetration, they usually think of doggy-style. There are good reasons for this; doggy-style seems like it was designed for deep penetration and G-spot stimulation (dogs are pretty smart, after all).

In fact, if the penetrating partner’s penis is larger than average, it may hit the cervix and that’s usually not a great feeling. Since partners are not face-to-face in this position, they need to be sure to use their words to communicate.

What We’re Doing

  1. The receiving partner positions themself on hands and knees on the bed.
  2. The penetrating partner kneels behind the receiving partner, between their legs.
  3. The receiving partner arches their back and the penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.

5. The Caboose

This is a cuddly, connected sex position that also offers the opportunity for deep penetration. It’s very much the best of both worlds, and it’s kind of surprising that it isn’t more popular, in our opinion.

And to make it even better, either partner can use their hands or a small sex toy to stimulate the receiving partner’s clitoris.

What We’re Doing

  1. The penetrating partner sits or reclines on the bed with legs slightly spread. They can lean against the headboard for support, which will also allow them to support the receiving partner.
  2. The receiving partner sits in the penetrating partner’s lap, between their legs.
  3. The receiving partner arches their back and lifts their hips, and the penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.

6. The Pretzel

This position looks and reads more complicated than it actually is. Our bodies were crafted to fit together very well in a variety of positions (like this one!), so rest assured that once you get started, everything will go together just fine. The angle here is unique and the penetrating partner can achieve very deep penetration.

You also get to maintain eye contact. And while this position is well suited for traditional intercourse, it’s also great for grinding, so maybe start out that way.

What We’re Doing

  1. The receiving partner lies on their side on the bed with legs slightly bent. They can prop themselves up on their elbow for support.
  2. The receiving partner lifts their top leg, and the penetrating partner kneels straddling the receiving partner’s bottom leg. The receiving partner rests their top leg on the penetrating partner’s hip and waist.
  3. The penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.

7. Ballet Dancer

This standing sex position demands balance, stamina, and flexibility. It is physically challenging, but it’s worth it. You get full-body and face-to-face contact along with deep penetration. You also need to communicate and coordinate with your partner so you don’t both wind up flat on your fannies, and that adds to the intimacy of this position.

It works best when partners are of similar heights, but if you find that you are not aligning like you need to be, you can consider this to be inspiration and not instruction.

What We’re Doing

  1. The penetrating partner stands straight up with legs together.
  2. The receiving partner stands facing the penetrating partner and raises one leg. The penetrating partner grasps the receiving partner’s raised leg, wraps it around their hip and waist, and holds onto it.
  3. The receiving partner arches their back and the penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.

8. Spooning

In contrast to the ballet dancer position, the spooning position may be the least rigorous and most accessible sex position for most couples. It’s cuddly and intimate, and deep penetration is possible (especially if the receiving partner’s posterior is not especially voluptuous).

There is also an opportunity for neck-nuzzling and pillow talk.

What We’re Doing

  1. The receiving partner lies on their side on the bed with knees slightly bent.
  2. The penetrating partner lies on the same side behind the receiving partner.
  3. The receiving partner lifts or angles their top leg, and the penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.
