Because everything changes as soon as you sign that license! We do believe that it’s important to keep “date night” energy flowing even after the ceremony, so whatever you liked doing before, you should keep on doing!
But the truth is that there is quite a lot to love about sex in your own home where no one has to leave in the morning or live out of a weekend bag. Read on to learn how to make the most out of your married sex life!
1. Lap Dance
The bachelor/ette party doesn’t have to be the last lap dance of your life. You and your spouse can reignite a spark with some music, a costume or props (does not have to be elaborate), and just a little imagination.
This position encourages teasing and pleasing, and sometimes it’s all too easy to let those slip away when your days are filled with kids and work and shopping lists and calling the plumbers again. However, eight minutes or less (two songs!) can bring it all back. That’s time well spent, right?
What We’re Doing
- The penetrating partner sits at the edge of the bed, chair, or couch with their legs together. They can lean back if they like.
- The receiving partner straddles the penetrating partner’s legs. They can face the penetrating partner or face away — both have their advantages!
- The receiving partner strips, dances, and grinds on the penetrating partner’s lap.
- The penetrating partner grasps the receiving partner’s hips and uses their hand to guide their penis in.
2. Doggy-Style
Doggy-style usually comes out on top in “most popular sex position” polls and surveys. A lot of people are having doggy-style sex, and a lot of those people are married. Doggy-style sex is pleasurable for a lot of people, including married people, and that’s why it has earned a spot on our list.

Doggy-style offers the opportunity for deep penetration and G-spot stimulation, and it is usually comfortable for both partners. It’s also easy to incorporate sex toys into your playtime — either partner can wear a butt plug if they are so inclined, and this position allows for clitoral stimulation with either hands or toys.
What We’re Doing
- The receiving partner positions themself on their hands and knees on the bed with their legs spread. They can place a pillow under their hips for support or to adjust the angle.
- The penetrating partner kneels behind the receiving partner, between their legs.
- The receiving partner arches their back, and the penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.
3. Spooning
One of the absolute best things about married sex is waking up (in your own bed!) just enough to have sex and then going right back to sleep again afterwards. Spooning is absolutely perfect for that! It is sensual and intimate, but it’s also comfortable and low-effort in a good way. We recommend it highly!

What We’re Doing
- The receiving partner lies on their side on the bed with knees bent, curled into a half-moon position.
- The penetrating partner lies on their side behind the receiving partner, facing the same direction.
- The receiving partner lifts their top leg or puts a pillow between their knees to elevate the top leg.
- The receiving partner arches their back, and the penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.
4. Reverse Cowgirl
Sometimes it’s a little too easy for spouses to get stuck in a rut, both sexually and otherwise. The reverse cowgirl sexual position also reverses roles to some extent, because the receiving partner is in control of the angle, depth, and pace of penetration. The penetrating partner gets to lie back, enjoy the view, and enjoy the ride. For many married couples, this is a switch and it’s good to switch things up from time to time.

This isn’t just a psychology assignment, either. It’s good sex that is highly satisfying for both partners. We think that all married couples should add this to their repertoire if they haven’t already.
What We’re Doing
- The penetrating partner lies on their back on the bed with their legs stretched out. They can use a pillow under their head and neck if desired.
- The receiving partner straddles the penetrating partner’s body, facing their feet.
- The receiving partner raises their hips and leans forward, and the penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.
- The receiving partner can also stimulate their clitoris with their hands or a small sex toy.
5. Lotus
The lotus position is a staple of tantric sex, which focuses on sensuality and connection and not (just) orgasms. It is a very intimate position with full-body and face-to-face closeness. It also requires that partners communicate with their words and their bodies.

Sometimes married couples don’t take enough time to connect meaningfully, and this is understandable with the demands of modern life, but it’s important to nurture your relationship. Lotus sex is one way to do just that.
What We’re Doing
- The penetrating partner sits with their feet flat on the floor. They can rest against the chair back for support if desired, which then allows them to better support their partner.
- The receiving partner straddles the penetrating partner’s lap, facing them. The receiving partner crosses their legs.
- The penetrating partner grasps the receiving partner’s hips to support them.
- The receiving partner lifts their hips, and the penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in.
6. Sex in Front of the Mirror
Some married couples have agreed that porn is off-limits. We respect any boundaries and agreements that couples make together, of course! If you are one of those couples, or even if you aren’t, watching yourselves enjoying sex together is both exciting and within the limits that you have set for your marriage.

Having sex in front of the mirror also lets you see what your partner sees and loves when you are together. It’s a great way to build up your self-confidence and feel better about your body.
What We’re Doing
- Move a full-length mirror close to your bed or move yourselves where you can see yourselves in a mirror — this could be the bathroom counter or facing the dresser in your bedroom.
- Choose a position where you are both facing the mirror. The first four positions in this article are good choices, and so are other standing sex positions.
- Enjoy sex with each other.
7. Pretzel
This is another position that requires partners to communicate and work together. Many married couples have mastered this, but sometimes don’t remember that these skills can be used to have great sex as well as to accomplish home maintenance projects. Let’s put these skills to work to strengthen your intimate connection!
The pretzel position looks complicated, and that’s not entirely unfounded, but it also allows both partners to move easily while also offering potential for deep penetration and G-spot stimulation.
What We’re Doing
- The receiving partner lies on their back on the bed with knees bent. They twist their knees to one side and lift the upper leg.
- The penetrating partner straddles the receiving partner’s lower leg with their knees on either side of the receiving partner’s lower leg.
- The penetrating partner uses their hand to guide their penis in, and then grasps the receiving partner’s lifted leg for support.
8. The 69
When people think about married sex, they don’t usually think about 69 (mutual oral sex). But they should! In the 69 position, both spouses are both giving and receiving pleasure. That’s exactly what marriage should be, and that’s why we think that 69 belongs on this list of the best sex positions for married couples.

You’re yoked in tandem and equally, you’re pleasing the person you love, and you’re being pleased by the person you love. This is excellent married sex!
What We’re Doing
- Partner 1 (usually the larger partner) lies on the bed with legs stretched out and slightly spread.
- Partner 2 (usually the smaller partner) straddles Partner 1’s chest, facing their feet.
- Partner 2 backs up so that their genitals are aligned with Partner 1’s mouth, and leans forward so that their mouth is aligned with Partner 1’s genitals.
- Both partners perform oral sex on each other.
