How to Clean Lovense Toys? PRO TIPS From A Sex Toy Tester!

Sex toys, especially from high-end brands like Lovense, are an investment! We want to make sure that we get the best returns possible, and that means keeping our toys in good condition. Read on to learn the best ways to care for your favorite toys (which, in turn, also helps you care for your favorite body — your own!).

Understanding Your Lovense Toy

Even if you’ve been part of the Lovense tribe for a while, always read the user manual for any new product that comes into your life. Just like all of us, they have their individual quirks and care needs, and you wouldn’t want to do anything that would compromise the safety or effectiveness of your sex toys.

You should always thoroughly clean your sex toys after every use, and Lovense toys are no different. Sex toys tend to accumulate lube, bodily fluids, and skin cells. This buildup can harbor bacteria and other contaminants, which is not healthy for either you or your toy. Store them in a soft fabric storage bag, and give them a quick check and wipe-down before each use as well.

Ways to Clean Your Lovense Sex Toys

Soap and Water

Soap and water is a classic combination to clean almost anything, and that includes quite a few sex toys. Use this method for non-porous toys (glass, metal, some silicone and plastic) that are fully submersible. The Lovense Lush 4 is a good example here.

Choose a gentle soap with no fragrance, bleach, or other additives; these are not kind to your toy or your body. A soap that is marketed for newborns is usually a good choice.

Wipe your Lovense toy with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth to remove any residue. Remove any charging cables or accessories, and make sure that the device is turned off. Engage the travel lock if the toy has that feature.

Wet your toy and your hands with warm water. Apply the soap to a clean cloth or your hands, and work up a lather. Use that lather to gently clean the toy. Be sure to thoroughly clean all of the nooks, crannies, crevices, and textured areas.

Rinse the toy under warm running water until all suds are gone and the water is clear. Pat dry with a clean lint-free towel, and let the toy air-dry fully. You can give it a light dusting with corn starch or sex toy renewal powder if you choose. Do not put it away in its storage bag until it is completely dry; moisture can foster the growth of mold or mildew.

Wiping It Down

If your toy is not waterproof or you do not have easy access to soap and water (or maybe you share a bathroom and kitchen), you can keep your sex toy clean and happy with a thorough wiping down. Start by removing leftover lube and bodily fluids as described above. Unplug the charging cable and make sure that the toy is turned off.

Then use unscented baby wipes — NOT disinfectant wipes — or a clean, moist, lint-free towel to thoroughly wipe down the sex toy. You may need several passes over textured areas or pockets. “Rinse” the toy by wiping it again with a cloth moistened with plain water.

Sex Toy Cleaner

Many sex toy manufacturers and retailers offer their version of a specialized sex toy cleaner. These are almost always produced with ingredients that are safe for your body and your toy, but it’s always a good idea to read the fine print.

Remove any charging cables and turn the device off. Wipe off any leftover lube or debris with a clean, soft, lint-free cloth. Apply the sex toy cleaner to a clean cloth or directly on the toy. Wipe the toy thoroughly, paying special attention to textured areas. Rinse under running water (if it’s submersible) or with another clean cloth moistened with warm water. Let the toy air-dry.

Bring It to a Boil

This is the best way to thoroughly sanitize a Lovense toy, or any other sex toy. If you are sharing sex toys with a partner who has an STI (and if you don’t know your partner’s STI status, you should assume that they do have an STI), you should stick with toys that can be boiled. Boiling a toy kills bacteria and germs.

You can boil toys made from stainless steel, borosilicate glass, and some kinds of silicone. You can only boil toys that do not have motors. In the Lovense line, this includes the Kraken sleeves and the silicone dildos that are used with the sex machine; as always, check the user manual or the manufacturer’s website for specifics.

First, clean the sex toy with any of the methods above. Then fill a pot with clean water, deep enough to completely submerge the toy. Bring the water to a boil and carefully place the toy in the pot. Boil for one to three minutes. Use tongs to carefully remove the toy, and then air-dry it on a clean lint-free towel.

Special Consideration for Special Toys

Some toys, like the Lovense Max 2, are designed for men to ejaculate into. They will need a little more attention in the cleaning process. You should disassemble the toy as much as possible to protect the electronics. Be sure to wash the inner sleeve as thoroughly as you wash the rest of the toy, and be sure that it is completely dry before you reassemble it and put it away. We recommend a light dusting of corn starch or sex toy renewal powder on the inner sleeve (assuming the manufacturer approves), and you can also store it with a silica gel pack in the sleeve.

Storage and Maintenance

After your Lovense sex toy is completely dry, look it over for any scratches or other injuries. Connect the charging cable to the charging port, and then plug the cable into a USB port or a wall outlet with an adapter. Watch the indicator light come on; if it doesn’t, check your connections and try again. Let the toy charge fully before you put it away, because you will want to be sure that it is ready the next time that you are!

Store your sex toy in a soft, lint-free fabric bag. Store the charging cable and any accessories in the bag with the toy. We recommend fabric bags because they breathe. Plastic or other waterproof bags or pouches can hold moisture, especially when there is condensation due to temperature changes. This moisture can lead to mold, mildew, and other nasties that you don’t want near your sensitive bits. For further protection, you can store the sex toys in their bags (each toy gets its own bag) in a hard-shell container like a toolbox.
