Close your eyes and imagine the perfect sex toy. When I picture it, it’s something that can get anyone off, is easy to clean, and opens minds to new modes of pleasure. But that kind of sex toy sorcery doesn’t exist. Or does it? The unisex, luxury, app-compatible LELO SURFER 2 is a butt plug that aims to do just that. Will this anal plug have you hanging ten toes off the bed, curled in delight, or will it be a bogus purchase? Let’s talk about how it performed during testing.
Key Takeaways

Here’s the deal: if you can afford this and only plan to use it with the app, you will love this vibe. If you ever want to use it manually, it is a pain because the power button is going to be inside you, so cycling through the settings is not easy unless you use the app, making the app mandatory. Further, the button doesn’t take you through different intensity levels; it just goes through rhythms. But if you will use it solely with the app, it’s a gorgeous, versatile, inclusive choice for a sex toy.
Who Should Try It? Deciding who should try this luxury butt plug is a little bit like deciding who would enjoy a beach vacation: just about everyone, if they could afford it, because anal pleasure is for everyone. This will appeal especially to tech-savvy users who want to use the app.
Who Can Skip It? If you’re not sure if you enjoy anal pleasure, start with a more affordable toy, like the Lovehoney Butt Tingler, which can’t be beat. People who enjoy tantra or long, punishing BDSM sessions will want something with a thinner, more comfortable neck, like the b-Vibe Snug Plug 2. And lastly, if you will not be using the app, this isn’t the anal vibe for you.
You Can Buy It on the official LELO website for $119.
What Is the LELO SURFER 2?
The LELO SURFER 2 is a luxury, app-compatible anal vibrator. It’s versatile, rechargeable, waterproof, and chockablock with customizability. It works for people of any gender, and the vibrations are silky-smooth, not mechanical. It works well for long-distance couples and makes hands-free pleasure a breeze.

First Impressions and Features
Unboxing
The unboxing is great—couldn’t be better, in fact. Everything you need is included: the SURFER 2, a USB recharging cable, a satiny storage pouch, a registration card, an instruction manual, and a sample packet of lubricant. The only thing standing between you and butt stuff is the charging time, which flew by.

Features
The LELO SURFER 2 has radical features, including:
- Four manual vibe modes, with two extra in the app, and eight intensity levels
- Low battery light
- Waterproof, body-safe materials
- Luxurious app experience
Specifications
LELO SURFER 2 specifications at a glance:
- Material: Body-safe silicone and ABS plastic
- Size: 4.1 x 3.8 x 1.3”; 3” insertable
- Color: Black or cyber purple
- Mechanism: Anal vibration
- Weight: 2.5 oz
How Do I Use the LELO SURFER 2?
After unboxing, charge the anal vibe. The LED light pulses during charging and stays lit once charging is complete. The website suggested it would last less than two hours after a full charge. When I tested it on the first setting, it lasted the full two hours and took around forty-five minutes to recharge.

Next, wash it with warm water and antibacterial soap, then grab your favorite water-based lube (remember to never use silicone lube with a silicone toy). Lube up your anus and the butt plug, and then gently insert it, using the button to turn it on. That button can also switch through the preset settings and turn the vibe off once finished. Bad news: the power button is going to be inside you, so cycling through the settings is not easy unless you use the app, making the app mandatory. When you’ve finished, wash it and store it in the satin pouch until next time.

My Personal Experience
It’s like I always say: if you only have one sex toy in your nightstand, make it an anal toy. Why? Anyone can use it. Plus, it’s $120, which is expensive for an anal vibe but a great value given what you receive. This anal vibe is stylish, sleek, and sexy. Vibes-wise, it’s a sexy toy to own.
I won’t mince words, though; I have a bone to pick with this vibrating butt plug. LELO may as well not have put a power button on the SURFER 2 at all, thanks to its placement. An internal button on an anal toy is not convenient for obvious reasons. Imagine getting close to orgasm, when you just crave slightly more stimulation before you finish. Instead of quickly clicking a button, you must pull the toy out, press the button, and re-insert it. That process takes you out of the moment, and you might even need more lube. It’s madness. I also wish the design team had included intensity levels as presets accessible via the button. As is, you can access one intensity level and some rhythms. To get any more power out of it, you must use the app.
That aside, I loved this anal vibrator; I would just never use it without the app. It was comfortable during use, easy to insert, and the vibrations felt great. The vibrations were buzzy but powerful. They are smooth, not mechanical, and they work well on any body part that enjoys a little buzz. I tried it as a clitoral vibrator, and it worked well in that scenario, too, but I had to use the app because I needed steadily increasing stimulation to get off.
Packaging
I’m in love, real love, with LELO’s packaging. The thick black box, picture window, and thoughtful extras make it my favorite packaging on the market. It’s giftable, and it’s in line with the high-end price.

Design
This pretty anal plug looks a bit like a Kraken, which is very fitting for its surfy theme. The design is gorgeous, but the semi-thick neck isn’t good for people who want to wear this vibe for long periods. My partner tried this vibe out and found that it rested perfectly on his P-spot. And, aesthetically, it’s a dreamboat.
But here’s the kicker: there’s one design choice so baffling that I’m still wondering how it came to be. The power button? It’s on the inside of the anal plug. Once it’s in, that’s the setting you’re sticking with, unless you plan to use the app or take it out, press the button, re-insert it, wash your hands, etc. I cannot imagine why the button that turns the device on and off and cycles through the preset patterns is on the internal portion of the vibe. An anal plug’s power button should be on the base, where it remains accessible during use.

Material
Expect a seamless, silky exterior on this impossibly soft anal vibrator. The interior is sturdy enough that the vibrations aren’t deadened by its velvetiness. Further, it’s waterproof and body-safe, so you can plan on the material lasting for years, with proper care and storage.
Stimulations
I was pleasantly surprised by the power behind the vibrations. It’s smooth and powerful but not rumbly. The LELO SURFER 2 has an automatic shutoff every twenty minutes, which is never my favorite feature. Being on an orgasm timeline stresses me out. But aside from that, I found the vibrations to be everything my partner and I needed for backdoor pleasure.

Sound Level
LELO SURFER 2’s user manual states that the noise level will never exceed 63 decibels. When I tested it, it ranged from 36 to 47. It was so quiet that the noise from a shower or our air filter easily drowned it out, even before insertion. It’s quiet and discreet enough to use even with the thinnest walls.
Build Quality and Dimensions
The build quality is exquisite. Though this is a high-end vibrating butt plug, you do get what you pay for. It’s seamless, sturdy, and the quality was evident during each use. It looks the way I imagine sex toys made by Apple would look.

The dimensions are about average for a butt plug, meaning this won’t appeal to size queens or brand-newbies. Yet, if you are a newbie, don’t fear. You can make this work as long as you’re willing to put in the time. Plan on several nights of using just one well-lubed finger before sticking this bad boy where the sun don’t shine.
LELO app
App integration into the sex toy world is becoming almost unavoidable, whereas just a while ago, it was kind of a niche feature. The LELO app is great, of course, but do you need it on this anal vibe? The design means that you will have to use the app, whether you like it or not.

Fortunately, I like the LELO app. It’s straightforward and amusing to explore. The LELO app features some fun integration, like FINISH ME OFF and OUT OF CONTROL, which are unique, hands-free experiences that are full of surprises. The app also gives you the option of allowing a long-distance partner to control the vibration with a link and offers several tactile ways to control the stimulation. Though I am a fan of the app, I don’t like having to use it to make the toy function conveniently.
Ease of Use
There are certainly easier-to-use anal vibes, but they aren’t as jam-packed with features as this one. The one-button interface is technically all you need, but you’ll miss out on 99% of the experience if you skip the app.
Though I hate to kick a dead horse, the button placement detracts from the ease of use. The lack of intensity levels on the preset patterns also makes the app mandatory. Sometimes I like the customizability of using an app, but sometimes I feel lazy and just want to use a button. That’s not really an option with the LELO SURFER 2.
Versatility
This is a versatile vibe. You can use it underwater, in the bedroom, and you’ll find pleasure no matter what gender you are. The app compatibility adds even more, with unique settings that allow you to sit back, relax, and enjoy without altering the settings. It’s great for long-distance, and it works on clitorises as well as anally.
Warranty and Support
LELO offers a two-year warranty on the SURFER 2 that begins on the purchase date. Beyond that, they offer a ten-year quality guarantee, which provides you with a discount on a future purchase.
Minor Issues I Found During Testing
This charming anal vibe is easy to love, and my first complaint is that the price is high enough that it won’t be accessible to everyone. But the most crucial shortcoming is the button placement, which is on the internal arm of the vibrator. Further, the button doesn’t take you through different intensity levels; it just goes through rhythms. Unless you like the lowest intensity and don’t want to change settings during use, using the app is mandatory.

Alternatives to the LELO SURFER 2
Lovense Hush 2
The Lovense Hush 2 is another high-end anal vibe. It comes in various sizes, so you can tailor the fit to your comfort level as needed. It, too, has app-capability, and a button at the base that is reachable during use. It’s much thinner, so it may not target the P-spot as easily as the SURFER 2 can. You can grab the Lovense Hush 2 for around $200.

LELO SURFER
The alpha model in this line was made specifically for prostate targeting. It looks even more aquatic than the newer model, but it shares the dimensions and shape. It’s difficult to find now, but you’d be better served getting the SURFER 2 anyway, as it offers more intensity levels. The new version has fewer colors, but a more upscale design.
