Blush Riana Clitoral Stimulator Review

The Riana by Blush is a vibrator with a difference—that difference being that it doesn’t vibrate! Instead, it stimulates the clitoris with a rubbing motion. Does this difference make it a better sex toy, or will it have you reaching for a classic vibrator instead? Read my review of the Riana to find out.
Key Takeaways

Not to Riana on anyone’s parade, this clit stimulator just didn’t do it for me. The idea of a toy that rubs instead of vibrates is a great one, but the overall design of this toy, along with the stimulations themselves just didn’t do it for me.
My main issue was with the handle. It’s wide and rounded, and didn’t quite fit comfortably in my palm. The addition of little finger grooves would have made a world of difference. The other problem I had with the handle was how much it shook along with the rest of the toy. Holding it down against my clit made the stimulations not work, but holding it too loosely made it difficult to manage.
Who Should Try It? If basic vibrators aren’t for you, I totally get it! The buzzy, rumbling sensation just isn’t for everyone, and this rubbing toy might be your best alternative.
Who Can Skip It? If you love your basic vibrators and want to branch out a bit, I’d recommend just upgrading your current vibe or trying a clit sucker instead.
You Can Buy It on the official Blush website for $94.99.
What Is The Riana?
The Riana is a “clitoral stimulator”, not a vibrator, since it, well, clitorally stimulates using AutoRub Technology. The business end, so to speak, of the vibe glides back and forth over your clit instead of vibrating on it. It’s a really cool concept, and I would love to see more companies try something similar.

How Do I Use The Riana?
After charging and cleaning the Riana, place the textured side on your clitoris. I used a bit of lube, just to make it smoother. To turn on the Riana, hold down the power button. The first time I tried it, I thought it was broken because I hadn’t held it down long enough—it says it turns on after 2 seconds, but it feels more like 3 or 4.

Once it starts doing its funky little dance, keep pressing the button to cycle through the five speeds. Then when you’re all finished, hold down the power button to turn it off.

My Personal Experience
Packaging
I thought the packaging for Riana was lovely. It had little touches like the “You turn me on” box for the charging cord, and the fact that the charging cord box is hidden by the shape of the outer box. The packaging is extremely appealing and made me excited to try the toy.

Design
The design was where Riana just didn’t do it for me. First, let’s talk about the handle. It’s wide and rounded, and didn’t quite fit comfortably in my palm. The addition of little finger grooves would have made a world of difference. One thing I will say in its favor is that it was easy to press the button to cycle through the stimulations while holding it, so the button placement was good, and it was easy to press. That might sound like faint praise, but believe me, I’ve seen sex toys where that is not the case.
The other problem I had with the handle was how much it shook after you turned it on. Holding it down against my clit made the stimulations not work, but holding it too loosely made it difficult to manage.

Now for the more exciting end of the toy. Of course there’s always the caveat that every body is different, but I just couldn’t get this one to fit right where I wanted it. The ridges on the bottom felt nice, but it was just too wide to achieve any kind of precision, a problem that was compounded by how much it moved back and forth. While I don’t always love traditional vibrators, at least their vibrations are small enough that they stay in place. This one sometimes swung wildly off-course!
Material
One area where Riana really shone was in how good the material felt. It’s made of Puria® body-safe silicone with an UltraSilk® finish. It has the same materials as the Temptasia Rattle Snake, a really superb Blush toy. While Riana is soft, it isn’t particularly squishy, so it feels nice and solid in the hand (though a bit big, as I say) and feels nice and soft against the clit.

Stimulations
First of all, for a toy that costs nearly $100 to have only 5 stimulations (and no way to adjust the intensity) is…not great. Even the Slimline, a free gift with purchase had 10 stimulations. It also only moves in a back and forth motion, with no pattern variation. It just increases in intensity.
The stimulations of Riana are simultaneously too powerful and too weak. They’re too powerful in that even on the lowest setting, the toy swings around wildly enough to not stay put on my clit. But they’re also not powerful enough to be fully satisfying. With a regular wand vibrator, that’s an easy problem to solve—just press the toy harder against your clit. But with this one, pressing it against my clit made it stop moving entirely.

I do like the idea of a toy using a rubbing motion instead of the usual vibrations, but this one simply…rubbed me the wrong way.
Sound Level
Riana is among the loudest I’ve tried. Usually sound level isn’t something I pay a ton of attention to, unless a toy is listed as being quiet and/or ideal for travel. But this one was noticeable.
Build Quality and Dimensions
At 3.5 in by 2.25 in, Riana is a bit of an awkward size. It’s small as toys go, but the handle is too big to fit comfortably in the hand, and the stimulating end is too big to really pinpoint the clitoris. On a regular vibrator, or something like the Cute Little Fuckers Starsi, that isn’t a problem, because the vibrations still get to the clit. With Riana, however, the combination of the wide size and the wide arc of the rubbing motion meant that my clit sometimes felt left out entirely!
Ease of Use
Riana only has one button, and that button is easy to press while using it, so in that regard, it is very easy to use. True, the button took a little longer than expected to turn on, but that’s a negligible concern. My bigger ease of use issue was how hard it was to hold comfortably. Again, finger grooves would have been a good addition (something the Starsi did very well)!
Versatility
Riana is only designed to be used for clitoral stimulation. However, it is waterproof, and maybe using it for partner play would be an improvement, since your partner would have to be the one holding it!
Warranty and Support
Blush offers a 1-year warranty.
Minor Issues I Found During Testing
It’s quite loud, the handle is uncomfortable to hold (both in terms of the shape and the vibrations), and the rubbing motion sometimes seemed to rub everywhere except my clitoris.

Alternatives to The Riana
The Blush Aria Flutter Tongue
If you like the idea of a sex toy that stimulates your clit without vibrating, then a tongue toy might be your best bet. They work on the same basic principle as the Riana, since they also thwack your clit back and forth (but, you know, in a good way), but since they’re a lot smaller, it’s easier to use some precision and really target your clit. There are plenty of great ones out there, but my personal recommendation is the Aria Flutter, also by Blush. It’s smaller, quieter, more powerful, and cheaper.

The Womanizer Enhance/Womanizer Next
If basic vibrations just don’t do it for you, but you also don’t like the idea of your clit getting thwacked (and yes, tongue vibrators can get a little painful at the highest settings), then I would highly recommend checking out a suction toy. The Womanizer Enhance got the top spot in our latest “Best Of” review, since it combines both suction and vibration. I haven’t tried the Enhance myself, but I have tried our “Strongest & Quietest” pick, the Womanizer Next, and it is as great as clitoral stimulation gets. It does not have a vibration option, but if suction is your preference, you’ll never look back.
